For those who don't use Facebook and haven't already seen, we are making an advanced LMS 8F. Focusing on 8F at work in the Britain, the pack will contain locos with different wheel balance weights, different reversers, ejectors (LMS & GWR), various liveries from LMS, LNER, BR, GWR-style LMS etc, regional lamps/lamp irons, Stanier and Fowler tenders, clean and weathered versions and much more!

It'll also come with a collection of wagons for various goods train workings.

Stay tuned!

Best wishes,
Ben
As a question did Any the 8Fs ever actually run with a Fowler tender? for some reason I have it in my head that they didn't but I am happy to be proved wrong.. I ask purely from curiosity as none of the sources available to me have that info

I just went through all my photos of Stanier 8Fs, and out of 19 I found 2 with Fowler tenders, both on the Midland main line north of Derby - totally unscientific but it shows that they were still around in the early 1960s.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

I have it on good authority that only a few 8Fs received Fowler tenders, from 1957 onwards and thus only appeared with the late BR livery.

EDIT: Jubilees with Fowler tenders swapped tenders with a batch of 8Fs in 1957.

Is there any difference between the Rebuilt Royal Scot packs available on the BMG website (that installs in the RoyalScotPack01 folder) and the one available on Steam (that installs into the RoyalScotPack02 folder)?

Hi John,

RoyalScotPack01:
Scenarios - Standard mode
All 70 nameplates
No coaches - quick drives and scenarios use coaches from Black5Pack01 available on Steam

RoyalScotPack02:
Scenarios - Career Mode
19 nameplates, a lot were removed over concerns from DTG regarding potential legal issues. There is a free patch for this on the BMG website which reinstates all 70 nameplates.
Coaches included

Best wishes,

Ben

I like the car flat with the Moggie Minors on it,my first car in 1965,was a black 1955 one with split windscreen, one advantage over modern cars if it wouldn't start using the starter button, you could hand start it with a starting handle, paid £60.00 for it.

Hi Ben, Don't get me wrong with what follows, your engines and coaches are Top Link and I love them - the purchasing in this arrangement just seems a bit odd. Is my understanding correct?;

Buying through Steam I get the full Royal Scot pack plus coaches and 6 scenarios if I pay £14.99 to DTG and download a free patch from the BMG website.

Buying direct from BMG I get the full Royal Scot pack for £14.99 (with no coaches) and 6 scenarios, but if I want to run the scenarios (requiring the coaches) I can pay an extra £14.99 (currently £7.49 on sale) to get the coaches from the Black 5 pack through Steam?

Just a bit confused!

You are correct.

The coaches are derived from DTG models, and therefore it would not be right for me to include them in any pack available on the BMG website. Most customers of BMG products will already have the Black 5, which is why coaches are used from that pack. Selling on Steam opens up the market to the more casual user or those that only want, for example, the Jubilee or Royal Scot without the Black 5.

jstange wrote:I encountered a strange issue with the Stephenson Black 5 yesterday. I believe however it could impact all black 5s and even perhaps all BMG products as it looks like a scripting bug.

I was driving on S&C from Appleby to Carlisle and after some 10-20 miles there was a moment when I realised the train reached almost 70 mph so I started braking back to 60. I hit the brake too much so I ended up at 50 and wanted to accelerate again but it was a no go, no matter what I set the reverser to I was only losing speed. After that I found that the vacuum brake lever has no effect (I could not even hear any "hissing" sound when using it) and that the vacuum gauge needle totally disappeared!

Has anyone encountered the same thing?

Thanks!
It’s a while back when you reported this. I’ve had the same problem with the Black 5 and the Patriot. The fault applies the loco brake only. It seems to disconnect the linkage with the brake lever. Holding the [ key blows the loco brake off but only a save restore solves the problem. It’s only happened twice in several hundred miles of driving. Other than that brilliant engines.

Could you inadvertently touched the [ key while touching the ' key ??

But this is a mistake by Bossman for using the [AND] keys for an
independent steam brake, as Just Trains did on their Standard models
on LMS loco's this is a valve operated by a vacuum lever/brake on
occasion it could be used as an (anti wheel slip brake) by pulling back
the top of the valve wearing gloves as it was hot or with a cloth hooked
onto the top of it, its a direct link to the steam brake cylinders under the
engine and tender.

Just Trains did it correctly by having an Independent Steam Brake for
Engine only and Loose coupled trains using the same [and] keys

This below is what I posted on the Bossman Facebook in the hope
that they would model the steam brake for the LMS 8F as the 1st
of the class, alas no reply

The Independent Steam Brake on the LMS 8F was fitted
to the left of the Vacuum Brake in a higher position and
above the reverser screw, with a forward and backwards
movement.
In your PDF Manual you have incorrectly shown figure 7
as it, what you show is a Vacuum Controlled Steam Brake
which was fitted to LMS Stanier Engines as you have correctly
done on your other models.
Wild Swan supply good books on most of the LMS classes

Thanks for reading Ex BR Fireman

P.S I do think these models done by Bossman Games are the best
and hope they take notice that I am only trying to help them get it right
I do know what I am talking about.

Hi 1crick14a
I’ve just fired up the sim and loaded a rebuilt Patriot on parcels train. Worked up to 20mph and then applied train brake whilst blowing steam brake off, then blew train brake off whilst applying steam brake. Everything worked ok. No needle missing from vac gauge, and all returned to normal after I stopped messing! Thanks for the suggestion though. I was a driver for 30 years but was only 10 when steam finished. I did manage to pick the brains of the old timers when I could though! Mainly Patricroft, Newton Heath and Trafford Park men who had migrated to Manchester Victoria. Thanks
