Trouble with home page today

Post by robin »

Matt,

I am experiencing failures when accessing the site home page and I am not able to login to premium access from there and access my uploads.

I get the following message instead of the usual page.

Error:
Query failed [SELECT id FROM news WHERE posted_date > 1048795661 ORDER BY posted_date DESC LIMIT 0,5] - Lost connection to MySQL server during query.

I do then get the menu down the left hand side and can (obviously) access the forums for example.

I had the same earlier, now I get the premium page header, about 2 thirds of the left hand menu which ends with the letters BR. The rest of the page is blank.

I think I may have fixed it. Unless it was a coincidence.

I deleted my retained cookies and it now seems to work OK.

May be I dunked them in my tea once too often!

Steve's been doing more firewall tweaking to try and get Passive FTP working for FTP uploads (which it now does) and that might well have caused the odd error like the above.

Let us know if anything like it re-occurs however, 999@atomic-systems.com

It looks like my fix was only temporary if it fixed it at all.

I am now getting the same error as before . No new uploads from me this weekend!

I'm confused.

Web based uploads are a tad knackered at the moment and we have no idea why - steve rebooted the machine and then the tests he was doing that failed before, worked after - but maybe that was only temporary.

Web based uploading sucks :)

Give the FTP Sideload a shot, it's far easier and doesn't suffer any of these problems - I am seriously considering ditching the web based upload, there's a config item somewhere that's causing problems and I have no idea what, nothing's changed. *sigh*.

However, other than that, the site is working just fine for me... ?

It seems hit and miss this morning - threw the error again about 5 mins ago and now loaded up first time.

If it's anything like mine it probably has something to do with the wind blowing from the east in Murmansk :P

Try pressing CTRL + F5 , seems to work most of the time when you get the 'done' at the bottom when it aint.

If it is of any help in tracking the problem, I gained access to the homepage via the forum page link with no errors last night, and the page opened OK as normal this morning.

Is this happening on every request? does a ctrl-f5 bring it up ok (perhaps need a couple?) - are you all using modems ? any broadband users seeing this ?
