Flickering Sky in Upper Right Corner

Post by Thugsy »

In TS2018 I find that I get a strange flickering effect on the sky in the top right-hand corner of the screen. It happens in all routes and regardless of which weather pattern I am using (including 3D). It is only the sky and it is always in the top right-hand corner. I see it regardless of whether I am in full screen or windowed mode, editor or drive.

It doesn’t happen if I look at anything else and it doesn’t happen if there is no sky in the top right-hand corner. It doesn’t happen on anything other than TS2018 and critically not in TSW.
I noticed the same thing happening on a video for the Adams Radial Tank posted on the DT Facebook page, so I am clearly not the only person to see this. It is a minor irritation but if anyone has any idea why I see this then would appreciate advice.
For the record I am using a Nvidea GTX1070 TI graphics card.
Thanks

Kind of. It is nowhere near as bad as in the picture but it is certainly little dark squares and always in that upper right bit of the screen. Because they flicker rather than appear constant it is hard to grab a decent screenshot of them.

I've had them ever since I got my new pc. and the 1080Ti Card. They Shimmer.
Scan have had a think. No ideas.
Nvidia dont even answer my emails.
So like you, I just put up with them.
However I don't have them now :D
But.. I don't know why :(
That picture was taken in July and all I have done to the system since then is tweek the Graphics Card as per Peters excellent guidence.
Sadly, having got so used to them I never noticed when they went.

I don't get them on Train sim but I do remember getting them on Dead Space 2 (GTX 970)
but Chris does get them on Train sim (GTX 1080ti)
He also used to get them on Star Citizen (before he refunded)

Thanks guys. Weird isn't it but I think I will wait and see if TS2019 makes any difference as it should be out soon and then maybe have a think about going through the graphics cards settings as I have downloaded the guide in readiness.

I suspect I never saw this either until I moved to my new Scan computer a few months back with a high end Nvidea Graphics card. An unwanted side effect of something which otherwise is quite brilliant.

>>> Scan computer a few months back with a high end Nvidea Graphics card
<<< Snap. but It's not their fault,
I have an ASROCK X299 Motherboard.

Try Peters settings, as I say it's gone now.

Its usually an AA issue - possibly nVidia later drivers become "too sophisticated" for our venerable TS 2018.
Check card temps and eliminate dust.
Check HDMI, DVI, and or display port cable seated, good quality (came with the card) and in good nick.
Check Monitor settings use windows calibrate, run adjust clear type.
In NVCP "Adjust desktop color settings" try both options, ie, "Other applications control colour settings" and/or "Use nvidia setting"s; Under Change Resolution choose 3: "Use default colour settings" OR "Use nvidia colour settings", in the latter make sure "OUT PUT DYNAMIC RANGE" is set to FULL
Run DXDiag 64-bit for any errors
It may be worth trying NVCP - Application controlled:
then
Open TS 2018 and try the various settings for AA/AF PLUS the shadow quality and Lens flare. If that fixes it then introduce other tweaks via NVCP and NVI.

Thanks Peter, suspect this is the most likely cause as the issue is very specific to sky in TS2018, I wonder if TS2019 will address that? The top right hand corner is a virtual top right hand corner of the game with sky in it - so if I am in windowed mode I can drag the window to a visibly different place on the screen and no matter where I put it you will still see the effect in the top right hand corner.

Will work through your recommendations to see the impact.

Many thanks and looking forward to the TSW guide.

Hi, have you tried UKTSfile 34510? I use the corrected version which samples the whole screen rather than a fixed area. It is possible that your faulty area is outside the fixed zone.

Must confess that one had passed me by. Another thing to take a look at.

Will probably wait for TS2019 first as that will be out soon. Then if that doesn't fix it I clearly have quite a few avenues to explore.

Thanks all, advice really appreciated.
