Have they publicised the new min/recommended specs? (About time, I think the current recommended spec is still a 3 GHz P4 with a GeForce 6800 and 4 gigs of RAM...)Springer6 wrote:This is excellent news. Is there any indication as to when TS2019 might be out ?
I have a 64 bit processor with Windows 10, but only have 8 GB of RAM. Should I be checking out my motherboard to see if it will take 16 GB ?
TS2019 will be 64 bit!

Re: TS2019 will be 64 bit!
This is great news. I have a question. I have not purchased TS2018. Will I need to buy that before I can get TS2019?

Oh, that's handy. I've got 24Gb installed on my current machine. [emoji3]

You can buy it anytime you wish and it will be automatically upgraded as each new iteration comes out for free. Only difference is the route bundles with each new year.irjky wrote:This is great news. I have a question. I have not purchased TS2018. Will I need to buy that before I can get TS2019?

I wonder if this also means that the program will access more cores if you have a multicore processor.?

On another forum a poster said that TSxx is limited to a maximum of two threads. No idea if true but if so then no more than two cores could be used assuming that the only change was the ability to so support 64 bit.mearle73 wrote:I wonder if this also means that the program will access more cores if you have a multicore processor.?

Yay, fantastic news DtG! Guess Gary will be along shortly to tell us it can't be done?

Mearle, Sam...
How many cores are used is up to Windows--it will use whatever's available to balance the load. The game is not limited to 2 threads; many more can, and will, be run. Just bring up Task Manager the next time you run the game to see how many threads are running.

Re: TS2019 will be 64 bit!
As welcome, and surprising, as this announcement is, let's not over hype it ourselves (a la AMD Bulldozer)
I doubt it's a full port to 64bit, but essentially being an update to 64bit for various routines in the game--it's still going to use DX9, hardly what you'd expect from a true 64bit game. We've been more or less promised that all our existing goodies will still work....backwards compatibility=compromise. It's exciting news, no doubt about that, but don't forget that a single duff file will drag down a 64bit application just as quickly as it would under 32bit. It's still going to be down to each of us to ensure that our systems are properly configured to make the most of it.

Re: TS2019 will be 64 bit!
I am astonished but grateful at this announcement. I'm astonished because it means that DTG have decided to keep TS20XX as an active product and by implication may further develop it.
Why are they doing it? Having two competing products doesn't make sense unless TSW is expected to take a long time before it becomes a full replacement for TS20XX. Alternatively they may have decided to aim them at two different markets: TSW for the more casual sim-lite user who just wants to drive a train, and TS20XX for the rail enthusiast who has niche/historical interests, wants user generated content and is prepared to accept more dated graphics.
All speculation on my part, but for now I'm grateful that TS20XX will continue with scope for further expansion.

I think it is great that DtG recognises the time and money we enthusiasts have spent on TS20XX, and seeing this commitment to it is really good news, I doth my cap sirs.

Re: TS2019 will be 64 bit!
This is great news, there is room for both franchises at the current time, whilst TSW finds it's feet & more content is released ... I have both & find I use TSW more these days as whilst yes there are the arguments that parts can be 'dumbed down' for console kiddies I find TSW a realisticallty rich & graphically rich sim in it's own right ... The forthcoming Ruhr Sieg route looks amazing ... I found myself drawn into US & German routes with TSW where as with TS I'd of given them a wide berth ...
Back to TS2019 / 64bit however, this is great news for that franchise, TS is content laden franchise, hardcore trainsimmers use it, PC traditionalists will always have TS forefront of their train sims colletion, with 3rd parties pushing the classic TS to it's limits the 64bit TS core should assist in many of the ways we expect ...
Great news & I hope development continues on both sims for the foreseeable ...

Re: TS2019 will be 64 bit!
This is indeed good news, but I have a few questions
The release from dovetail says TS2019 will include Train simulator 64 bit, does that mean it will run as a separate product?
Will 64 bit functionality apply to all existing routes?
