RW_Tools - New version

Post by mikesimpson »

I have uploaded an update patch to RW_Tools v8.0.10 on my site today.

Contains a .pdf file which explains a new option, AP Editor, on the Assets Editor menu.

This version allows you to view the contents of any / all .ap files in a grid similar to the 'Assets Editor' grid without having to unpack the .ap files.

Please advise of any problems etc.

Mike.

Thanks - that's very useful Mike. It will save me having to temporarily extract .ap files when I want to add new rolling stock purchases to my database.

Mike,

Does this mean that eventually RW_Tools will be able to check inside .ap files, for example when checking stock used in a scenario to see if it's present?

Hi Nigel,

That is not all that easy, as the scenario files within .ap files point in the ScenarioProperties.xml and Scenario.bin files point to folders which actually do not exist. e.g. The BristolCardiffATWDMUPackScenarios.ap ScenarioProperties.xml file points in scenario "04. [175] 2L53 Cheltenham Spa to Maesteg" to a loco DTG\BristolCardiff\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class70\Default\Class70_default.xml but of course unless you have unpacked 'BristolCardiffAssets.ap' then the Class70 folder does not exist and there is no way of knowing which .ap file any specific loco is in.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I see what you mean about it not being easy. Does that mean it's not possible?

Maybe possible in time, but I am very busy at moment as I am changing ISPs and will be getting a new email address and am currently having to go through all my stuff to work out who needs advised (banks, anyone I have accounts with etc. etc.)

After everything settles down, I will get back to RW_Tools.

Hi Mike.

Yep, been there, done that (didn't want the T-shirt). It's a pain. Good luck with it.

OK, doing final preparations on my 'Sussex Scot over Shap' scenario, including swapping out placeholder default locos for the ones I actually intended to use. When loading the scenario afterwards, I noticed that the popup message at the start ("Passengers are already onboard, depart when ready. First stop is Oxenholme") had been replaced with the number of the last loco I swapped ("37/412"). I edited the text slightly, and put a title ("Departure") in the field where the mysterious loco number had appeared, but the Class 37 loco number still appears in the starting popup instead of the text. I have swapped locos and stock before, with the previous version, without this happening. The latest swaps was done with the most recent RW_Tools. I am loathe to point fingers, but seems something is wonky in the latest RW_Tools version

There were no changes in the latest version that impacted the Scenario Editor section, the only change was the completely new option to view the contents of the .ap files. So I think that if there is a bug, then it possibly was there in a previous version? It would be interesting to know if anyone else has seen something similar occur? Also, did this occur when swapping a single loco, or doing multiple changes at once and which of the buttons was pressed, e.g. 'Swap all identical', 'Swap in all scenrios for this route' etc - Each option has different code behind it, so knowing what the user has done does help. It is of course much easier for me to diagnose if this problem occurs when editing a freely obtainable route/scenario as I can then test it locally.

While I did do several swaps (well, three), I definately always used the "Swap Selected Item(s)" button. I've used this several times in the past too, without this occuring, This was the first time editing scenarios with RW_Tools after upgrading to the latest version. I guess I _may_ have skipped an update or two, but this definately did not happen before I applied the most recent version.

Can you get the same issue in another scenario?

If you can point me to a route/scenario which I am able to download and check the problem first hand, then I will try to see why you are getting this problem.
