Whats this error message about!

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

What was the route? Is it one you've just downloaded? If so, check that the route's PATHS subfolder has some paths in it and if not re-download or create some paths in activity editor.

Placement of service failed...

Is this when you load your activity - or do "explore route".

Does the service start on a siding or a long bit of mainline?

(In explore route, the path is not set, just the start-point; so if you are starting in a siding where the points have to change to join the main line, these points aren't set in explore and maybe the consist is too long to fit in the siding).

Have you tried creating other paths?

Did you get other error messages? Such as UID failed to place ***** ? If you got this message then your consist is to long for the siding. You said that this was an explore activity, did you put any AI trains or loose consists? There might be in conflict in paths at the start that is causing this.

OK.

Well, if you want to be able to explore the route, you need one or more paths.

Go into the activity editor, file-new; choose your route, type in anything for the description because you won't save it.

Create a player service, create a path - you only need to place the start point, no need to worry where it goes for exploring. Just make sure the start point isn't right on the end of the track - and that it is heading away from the buffers! :) (right-click, toggle start direction if necessary).

Save the path, exit the activity editor without saving the service or activity and you should be able to explore.
