North Wales Route - Duke of Lancaster - have you seen this?

Hi,

Just wondered whether others had seen this or perhaps were already aware of what was Wales third most popular tourist attraction .

Having just purchased the TS2018 Pack I was running the Llandudno to Crewe Route, going Eastbound I happened to notice a large Ship on the left hand side just past Mostyn Docks, as it was located slightly ashore in a strange position I thought I would investigate why it was there.

Found this a sad tale, but worth a read.

Shame it has ended up in this situation.

It is OK, Rob, we have cleaned her up and put her back in the position she was in in 1980. Andy hasn't got as far as that with the scenery "regression", but I reskinned her and moved her into the old site

I seem to be missing something here, as much as I like the North Wales Coast route and DTG have done a good job on the route, that was the thing I noticed or lack of, as the ship at Mostyn Docks is missing.

Great to hear what you have done Nick.

Glad it was included in the Route and more importantly it brought my attention to the situation.

I was wondering how many members have now re-run the Route to have a look at this location and see it for themselves. He-he.

@david1, if look a little more to the east of Mostyn Docks (towards Chester), you will see it.

I visited the ship not long after it was opened as the "Fun Ship", you had to walk through an open air market/car boot sale to access it.....the ship had been floated into it's present location on one of the highest tides of the decade and since then many years of silting have ensured that the chances of it ever being floated out again are almost nil. It was in fairly good condition back then but it has been neglected over the years and is now a rusty hulk. That petition has been around for a while but the Council do not seem interested - however in the last few weeks the hull and superstructure has been painted black on one side so something is happening....from photos that I have seen the upper superstructure is also being painted black....which looks wrong, possibly a protective layer before a final covering of paint is applied but, according to an article in the Daily Post, it is known who has organised the paint job.

As Nick says, on our version of the NWC route she will look pretty much as she did when floated in.

Another coastal landmark which I wouldn't have minded seeing in the route is Rayne's jetty near Abergele. It often has a ship docked loading up stone from the quarry which is depicted in the route.
