A very belated thank you kind sir - unfortunately sickness can get in the way much more often as you get older :cry:

RW Tools can't see inside the .ap archives to read the files;
It needs to be able to read the RouteProperties.xml file and luckily Mike has built in a wee routine to take care of copying that file from the archive and pasting it into the right place.

Click on 'Files' in RW Tools' menu bar and then the 'Find all MainContent.ap files' option.
That will open a window with all the .ap archives you have in your ..\Contents\Routes folder.
At the bottom of the window, the second button from the left is the one you want---"Extract RouteProperties.xml for all routes and add route name". Click that and let it do it's stuff :)

Now all your routes will show in RW Tools.

That won't make all the scenarios appear though, you'll also need to have a 'visible to RW Tools' copy of the scenario to be edited's ScenarioProperties.xml file.
So, back to the row of buttons at the bottom of the window you used to extract the RouteProperties.xml file and this time choose the 6th one from the left--"Extract scenarios from selected .ap files"
That'll now enable you to edit the scenarios n RW Tools, and as I wrote earlier if you aren't changing the loco performance that much you can edit a career scenario easily.
Despite following the instructions kindly supplied by gptech, the Riviera Line In The Fifties is still not showing in my routes total. I am "waving a white flag" with regard to RW Tools, but many thanks to those who have offered advice.
