TS Route Requests

Post by sem34090 »

Hi All,

Following some discussion in my 'Wishlist Poll?' topic, I have decided to create this topic in which people can suggest various route ideas, rather than them being spread out across various topics, threads and forums where it can be hard to see the popularity of particular route ideas.

Personally, I think it would be best if (alongside your request) to possibly explain a bit about the route and maybe offer a reason why you think it would be good in TS. I think this would be good mostly because it can help people who may not know about the route you are suggesting to see why you think it would be a good route. I think this route would work better than a poll as there are no limits to how may routes can be modelled, and I certainly couldn't pick 100 routes to put in a poll. Maybe once some clear favourites emerge I can put them in a poll to maybe see which route is most popular overall.

I look forward to reading requests, not that I have much/any power to make any difference, but I may be inspired to clear some of my backlog of route projects and ideas (!).

All the best,

Just one question - who, do you think, would make any of the routes that turn out to be favourites in your poll (i.e. what is the purpose of this poll)? Or are you just seeking a "wish list"?

Hi Ash,

I don't intend anyone to read this as such and think 'We'll make that: it scored highly in the poll', but I think you are correct to say this would be more of a wishlist. I just felt it made more sense to try and concentrate the wishlisting rather than have it spread throughout the forums. At least that way some meaningful discussion could result, and in turn that could lead to some routes being produced. People were requesting routes in the other thread, so I decided to create a thread for that purpose!

OK, understood.

Members tend to make routes because they wish to, or because they're local to them, or because they have some affinity with a real route.

Members don't tend to make them because someone is enthusiastic about them or because people ask for them, but you never know.... :)

Hi (Again!) Ash,

I get that, and I suppose this is also the place where people can tell the forum about projects that they're working on, particularly if someone requests a route that somebody else is already working on, possibly as a personal project. It may cause some people who are working on personal projects to decide to make them public, especially if there is a demand for that route that they didn't realise was there.

Hmmm... not come across that one before!

Seeing as it's locked I think I'll keep this one open (rather than ask for it to be closed beacuse of an existing thread), but thanks for linking to it!

It's only locked because it's not been used for some time. You could always ask a mod to re-open it.

That's a thought... we'll see. I'll leave it a few days, but I may well ask for that to happen rather than have two threads.

Frankly, I don't see the point. So what if Joe would like to see Timbuktoo to Lands End based in the 1940s? It just leads to rambling dreamland posts of little consequeence.

But . . . that's just me. . .

And here's another useless route suggestion thread.

Deal with it, DTG and every other route builder will build whatever route they want to build. If you like you get it, if you don't, pass to the next one.

End of the story

Ir was just a thought... some people were talking about routes in the 'Wishlist Poll?' thread so i thought I'd create a separate one where such things can be discussed without affecting the poll thread, which I'd rather keep for stock.

The one route that cries out to be done is the only remaining part of the WCML that we do not have in some form or other. Namely the route from Stafford to Preston ( yes I know we have a little bit at Crewe with North Wales Coastal, a bit at Warrington with Liverpool Manchester and even a tiny bit at Wigan with the Hindley to Southport line).

We have all the ECML, virtually all the GWML and now the GEML through to Norwich.

A route as important as WCML, which is one of the three premier routes in the UK ( arguably the most important ), deserves to be completed and not only for UK TS fans

Can't argue with that! Question is, what era? My preference would, of course, be pre-1923, but that's just me!

To fit with the WCML Over Shap, WCML North, and WCML Trent Valley, I'd say 1970s to the modern day, and I'd do Preston - Birmingham, with maybe some branches to make it less linear.
