Tilting around

Post by deltic009 »

Well, I'm a nosey sort, and whilst I'm full of admiration for the job of bringing the long dormant APT-P to virtual life, I still found one or two things to bug me.

The first of these was the passenger view which did not tilt at all. Well, I couldn't be having that. So I had a dig around and thought of some ideas. Firstly was how to get the view to actually tilt. Once I had done that I was left with a tilting passenger view, but the passenger point of view stayed static. Ever the perfectionist I took to the Developer Docs in search of ideas and found out that the final piece of the jigsaw was actually incredibly easy. So, here hopefully is a link to the video from the Vulcan Productions Facebook page, for those who don't want to partake in such things, to show the passenger view of the APT tilting and being followed by the players viewpoint too.

Further on from that I was curious if the mod could be retri-firted to the Class 390 cabview which sees the cab tilting around the players viewpoint once more. I'm glad to say it was easy to do and worked fine - link below.

So, next up is to work on the 390 passenger view, before moving on to the Class 221s from both JT and Dovetail.

Whilst it may benefit from such, I am unsure if it is something that I own.

Very nice work. Can't wait to get that once it's done. When you see that, you can understand why some people would have got seasick on the APT and why the Pendolino's windows are much smaller.

Just need someone to relay all of WCML-N with super elevation now and we're sorted.

Well and also produce a C-APT speed limit template for the WCMLN with the speed limits in some "NetworkScenarioProperties" files to enhance the standard EPS ones to APT standard.

Oh, and also make the C-APT alarms audible outside the cab ( modded proxyxml files probably) .

Then we're sorted :D .

I've often wondered why DtG hasn't upgraded their older routes to 20xx standards, I wouldn't hesitate to pay for that!

Because you can't follow exactly identical track layouts with easements, junctions without SE in between the curves, WCML-N has the old style of OHLE and all gantries are scenario objects that will need deleting, and relaying the track means putting all the signalling and speed limits etc back in place - it would almost be easier to do the route new from scratch.

The windows are smaller because it's a European train built to UK Loading Gauge and all of Fiats Pendolinos have smaller narrow windows.

Compared with the Voyagers and ICE-T which are much bigger

I think also the other reason may be the monocoque construction. Bigger windows, less strength.

And they are also reasons why the windows are smaller. However, and I can't quite put my finger on the article at the moment, it has been shown that windows which are less tall help with motion sickness because they reduce the perception of the horizon moving up and down.

Well done Matt on your effort for this! It is something that has bothered me as well and look forward to the results of your efforts whether that be paid through some kind of enhancement pack or as freeware if you so decide. The ICE-T is one that could really benefit from these mods. Its this kind of effort that makes the community what it is and look forward to your progress down this path.
