4th Time a Charm...

Post by UKrichB »

Hi,

I have been trying to build a route from Wolverhampton Low Level to Himley, via Tettenhall and Wombourn for many years. First on Trainz, but never could get the assets and terrain correct. Now TS2017 (now TS2018) is easier to use than the old MSTS, I can actually make an attempt at building the route. After watching many online YouTube videos, asking my brother for gradient maps (I live in the US, and he is in the UK) - I have actually laid the track! It needs some work - and I hate the cuttings - but it actually looks a bit like the real thing. At the moment I am building the bridges on the line in 3DS (which is now more affordable for the casual user).

Hoping to post some screenshots of my work. It's really slow going, but I am learning a lot and enjoying it.

Rich

PS. If anyone has done Stourbridge, I would love to link my line with theirs. So trains can run from Wolverhampton LL to Stourbridge via Wombourn.

I will certainly be watching progress on this route having walked on part of the route and being local. As far as I know the only version of Stourbridge is on the modern freeware Chiltern route. Years ago someone was making the Stourbridge Town branch as it was in steam days, but I don't think it ever got released. Would be great to see some of the routes around the Black Country appear in the sim.

Best of luck with your endeavours.

Peter,

Thank you! Right now I am making the mechanic bridge.....will post a pick of it. As you have walked the branch, you might recognize it and let me know what you think. Totally open to criticism! I have some photos and am using those. I have to make use of black and white photos at the time. I think it was gray at the time.

This is the bridge..

It’s hard to get the perspective the same in an actual photo of the bridge, but I know my dimensions are correct as I ordered the original plans from 1912 and built it from that...

Well, I have had problems with the bridge and made some really basic errors - so while I am working to correct these (I had to delete objects from the bridge to upload it) - I did manage to upload it to see what it would look likes..
