Re: New route for TSW
Me too, supported the TSW first couple of releases, but zero interest in this. I agree with the poster that said it felt like it was continual support for a Beta. They need to get the dev tools out so people can start building things and sharing them. This releasing of limited end to end stuff is draining my interest, and I reckon that of many others.....

Re: New route for TSW
I have to agree, although I kinda appreciated Great Western Express, despite its shortness, I got bored by it very quickly, and it contained 3 trains.
Now we have a 70 km route with one train. I imagine I would be bored after 2 or 3 A to B runs.
I bought the first DLC to support the developers, but I now have to wondere what the hell are they thinking with that release. Moreover, with an S Bahn, you could take the opportunity to create a net with multiple possibilities, but nothing here.
Considering that so far the sales of the game are less than 50k unit (from steam db), I think that they need to reflect again on this simulator.

Re: New route for TSW
If they were concentrating on the S bahn, then they should have included 2 shorter lines or something to create variety. Ie S1 & RE5
The S2 line seems an odd choice for an S-Bahn dlc, it seems as if they were originally going to do Leipzig-Magdeburg. But then changed it to the Rapid transit at the last minute, when they realised they didn't have enough time to finish it.
It would have been nice to include a 182 + Dostos, so we could of aleast replicated RE services to Dessau.
I hope I'm proved wrong, but I've got a feeling that the release is going to be buggy (like GWE, CSX) since it has been developed quite quickly.

They said when they started developing the route? I didn't realise they'd publicly released this information, or are you just making an assumption?twirlycactus wrote:I've got a feeling that the release is going to be buggy (like GWE, CSX) since it has been developed quite quickly.

Matt said in one of his streams I think?, that development of GWE started shortly after CSX was released. I sort of assumed the same for Rapid Transit.deltic009 wrote:They said when they started developing the route? Re: New route for TSW
I would be fine with this route if they included AI trains (doesn't have to be driveable) with the route. But instead, it'll probably feel like a barren wasteland like what TSW does. They should look into creating some non-driveable assets to make the world feel more lively and more simulator-like. Even some tube trains for Great Western would go a long way.
Re: New route for TSW
Or, in other words, you have no idea when they started making Rapid Transit and are using your own conjecture to quantify an allegation of a buggy release before we've even seen any previews or videos of the route running.twirlycactus wrote:Matt said in one of his streams I think?, that development of GWE started shortly after CSX was released. Re: New route for TSW
I would say it's more of an educated guess, but none of us know when it was started.deltic009 wrote: Or, in other words, you have no idea when they started making Rapid Transit and are using your own conjecture to quantify an allegation of a buggy release before we've even seen any previews or videos of the route running.
Again with the bugs, I'm basing it on the the state in which GWE and CSX:HH were released in. GWE still has a ton of bugs which DTG haven't fixed, mostly to do with signalling and routeing of AI services.
The game has potential, we just need to be patient and wait for all the bugs to be fixed.

Re: New route for TSW
As with the previous two routes, this looks beautiful, but is a short A-B route, no branches, very limited stock, and therefore very little "re-playability".
I purchased the original purely to support development, even though the route itself help no interest for me. GWR was a disappointment; shorter than its Train Simulator predecessor (and shorter than originally announced), no branches, minimal stock and still no tools. Sure, it looked great, but the quality is still only surface deep, no growth of the base product and still very much more a game than a simulator.
It seems to me at this point that proceeds from one DLC is being put towards the next, and nothing else (other than minimal core game changes to support the new DLC). Without tools for third party development (or significantly more "interesting" routes with more stock and more than just the same old A-B) TSW is, sadly, a waste of hard drive space for me. That's a real shame, I think the sim has (had) real potential (not least just to get away from the constant memory limitation crashes that have driven me away from playing Train Simulator regularly), but I for one am done with throwing money at it in the hopes that it turns into something worthwhile. I've been supporting Train Simulator from day 1, have almost literally all the DLC (including stuff I have little interest in, to support overall development), but the way TSW is panning out just isn't for me.
Hopefully things will change, and I'll be back, but at least for now, I'm uninstalling TSW and am out.

Re: New route for TSW
I think it's fair to say had the new route been at the full price instead of the 'discounted' price then I wouldn't have pre-ordered it, same goes for GWE, and I wouldn't have bought TSW itself at full price either, but then the same can be said of the majority of games and DLC I have bought from steam as well, I very rarely pay full price for anything I wait for the sales when the prices are reduced.

Re: New route for TSW
More complete guesswork and a position going forward based on it, you, I and pretty much every user have no idea how the investment cycle is operating in TSW, or how the team even works on these developments. People are doing themselves a great disservice with posts such as this, debate and discussion work far better on a factual basis.PaulH2 wrote:It seems to me at this point that proceeds from one DLC is being put towards the next, and nothing else (other than minimal core game changes to support the new DLC). Re: New route for TSW
Here's my opinion: TSW is a increasingly looking like a doomed product.
DTG seem to have created a product where development time for content is much greater than TS. I can't see how the market is going to significantly increase in size, so DLC (for the same price) will be more meager in content, which is what seems to be happening.
This is not going to meet the desires of many current customers, and poor sales will result.
I may be wrong, but it's looking to me like a minor miracle will be needed to turn this product around.

Re: New route for TSW
All those years ago, when I decided not to upgrade from Rail Simulator and didn't buy Railworks (as TS20xx was then), DTG didn't even notice. Instead they went on to even greater things.

Re: New route for TSW
Don't stop them. We are collecting raw material for an art project here, but don't tell anyone.
The secret idea is to put all the rants about Rail Simulator and Rail Works on one side and all those about TSW on the other.
Maybe there will also be a secret awareness test where Artificial Intelligence smuggles old post into the current threads with KRS substituted by TSW, and MSTS by TS20xx, just to see if anyone notices.
