Nice video on the Train Driver website -

Even though the two trains are entirely different?
The APT having two power cars in the centre and the 390 having distributed traction which is heard as the train moves.
In fact the drivers could not hear the power cars as they were 6 vehicles away in the Cab.

It would be nice if the modelled the lifting nose cover showing the buffers and coupling underneath
But I'm no holding my breath :)

Well you can logically say that if the motor sounds are being emitted from the power cars.

Try a consist on a North American route with a NJ ALP46 and 6 coaches - driving from the Cab-Car do you hear much loco sounds in the Cab?
The APT-E will be similar except an air cond cab will reduce the sounds from the power car even more.

Sorry to niggle but the APT-E was gas turbine and within the driving vehicle, the APT-P is the 25kV one being discussed.

Ive just viewed some old poor quality VHS video footage of the train courtesy of an old colleague of mine, filmed at Shields Rd around 1985. This confirmed a very class 91 esq roar from the two central power cars, a nice quiet whirring MA set in the coach adjacent to the power cars, and literally only AC unit noise elsewhere.

There is however a short segment on the film where the pan is dropped and auxiliaries are being fed from the APU directly behind the drivers cab, this was a small diesel alternator set which was only used in emergencies or when being dragged away from the OHL, unfortunately the tape cut away to someones birthday party before I could hear any APU noise as such....

Well it it did "kind of happen in the real world" ! In typical British fashion , once it was more or less proven, we sold the technology to the Italians , who then sold it back to us as the Class 390 !

Nothing new here, story of modern Britain really.

The Harrier Jet - spent millions developing a plane that turned out to be way too expensive, was scaled down to a much cheaper version, which was then sold to the Americans. They took over the project, basically evolved it into the original plane the British envisioned, and then sold it back to Britain... Are there any more examples?

You have been here longer than me you should know by now as soon as DTG announce ANYTHING even without a video people start the “I hope such and such do an enhancement pack). The same comments appeared when dtg announced the faversham London route and said the sounds for the 395 were wrong. Funny thing is dtg actually used a real class 395 for someone be recording. As soon as that got mentioned the sounds were perfectly acceptable. Funny that

The wiper sounds on that class 395 certainly aren't accurate that's for sure. (on a wet windscreen anyway), the wretched sound they make when operational would drive a real driver nuts! So if dtg recorded those sounds then they obviously didn't think to activate the screen washer jets beforehand as it sounds like they recorded that sound on a bone dry windscreen lol. That's not a mistake ap would make, if indeed the dry windscreen sound recording is responsible for that horrible wiper sound!

I'm not really surprised some people are wondering whether dtg will do the sounds justice, that isn't their strong point is it and everyone knows it but I believe this model was started off by a different company (oovee?) so maybe the sound set will be good, time will tell.

The steel industry is now owned by Tata Steel (India)
ICI is now (mostly) AkzoNobel, Huntsman, Givaudan, Syngenta, etc, each benefitting from years of research that didn't make it to the marketplace under the original owners
Most of the pharmaceutical industry
The linear motor was designed and a prototype demonstrated at Gorton works in the 50s. Now developed by the Japanese into the Maglev and derivatives.

We could go on!
