Installing RW Files
Hi all,
I have just downloaded 7MT Britannia Sound Pack from Steam Sounds Supreme and I can't figure out how to install it.
I've opened up Train Sim Utilities and gone into Package Manager but I don't know how to proceed to install it.
I've looked at the very beginning of the forum for beginners, page 41 and there is a post about installing RW files but the problem didn't appear to be solved.
I would appreciate some help please.
Regards,
Steve

Re: Installing RW Files
Hi Steve,
You install the Steam Sounds Supreme install differently to DTG .rwp files, they install similarly to how the Just Trains 7MT Loco pack was installed and you do not use the DTG Utilities/Package Manager to do the installation.
First unzip the 7MT Sound file (using Winzip, 7Zip or a similar package) to unzip the file that you have downloaded from SSS and you will find an .exe file, click on the .exe file and it will check to see where your Railworks installation is on your P/C and that you have the Just Trains 7MT Loco installed. When you have confirmed where your Railworks installation is, it will then open another screen that will allow you to click on an "Install" box and it will install the Sounds to your Just Trains 7MT installation.
Hope that helps.

Re: Installing RW Files
You'd have to search long and hard to find a .rwp package from DTG; .rwp is now really only used to distribute/install reskins and routes created by users.emrhd01 wrote:install differently to DTG .rwp files
DTG add-ons come in .ap archives, which need no intervention from the end user to install--Steam deals with all that automatically.
Steve, when you've got the SSS sounds installed, pop back and we'll go through installing a reskin from a .rwp with you.

Re: Installing RW Files
Just be aware some SSS add-on sub-folders/files will also install on your C:Drive in a folder called SteamSoundsSupreme - not all but some. These sub-folder/files do have .rwp files in them, which run automatically vis the installer but not always.

Re: Installing RW Files
Hi Rob, Peter and GPTech,
I think I have managed to install the sound pack but more by good luck than knowing what I was doing. I opened up a route and ran the Britannia. It did sound like the real thing but I'm still learning how to drive the advanced steam locos.
I could really do with step by step instructions on how to unpack the RWP files and installing.
Peter, I haven't seen any SSS add-on sub-filders/files on C:drive program Files, Files/(x86).
Regards,
Steve

Re: Installing RW Files
You'll certainly come across a lot of .rwp files when/if you start adding freeware reskins and routes, and basically there are 2 ways to deal with these.spionkop wrote:I could really do with step by step instructions on how to unpack the RWP files and installing.
The *official* way is by using the Utilities; double click on Utilities.exe in your RailWorks folder and confirm the action when/if you're presented with a UAC prompt to elevate your privileges to Administrator level (the routine is hard coded to demand admin rights).
Once it's loaded, click on the 'Package Manager' tab in the top menu bar
The screen will display a message saying you should refresh the view, but this isn't strictly necessary for the purposes of installing. Click on the 'Install' button on the right hand side and navigate to where you've stored the .rwp package you wish to install. The installer leaps into action so just sit and watch the progress indicator.
However, many of us prefer to do the job manually even though it does mean we lose the routines ability to keep tabs on what we've installed and if we un-install something it doesn't/shouldn't remove any files that are used by other add ons we've installed.
Think of a .rwp package as being just a .zip archive that you drag and drop folders/files out of.
The .zip support in Windows doesn't recognise the .rwp format though, so you'd need 7-Zip or WinRAR to do the job, simply opening the .rwp with either one of those and dragging and dropping any Contents, Assets and Manuals folders out of the archive into your RailWorks folder. It does mean that you could also just install part of a scenario pack for example; lets say you downloaded a pack that included scenarios for 3 routes but you only have 2 of those installed so you'd just navigate through the folders in the .rwp and drag and drop the stuff you can use into your TS installation--the folder structure inside the .rwp mirrors what's in the game so you can easily check that you're dragging and dropping into the right place.

Re: Installing RW Files
To add to Gary’s post:
Step by step
Find the .rwp file
Right click on it
Find 7-zip Click or Winrar
Choose Extract Files
Browse to the Railworks Folder \STEAM\steamapps\common\railworks
Press OK and allow any merge/overwrite of files. “Yes to all” option
That's it.

Re: Installing RW Files
Hi Gary & Peter,
I have now got to grips with RWP files. It seems I did manage to install the 7MT sound and I've also manage to install North Yorkshire Coast 2017, I think from SSS. However, It doesn't because I think I need to download other things for it.
At least it seems that I am getting the hang of things now. I need to study the manual for the advanced steam locos.
Thanks for your advice, I'll see how I manage from now on.
Steve.

In addition to the route files available here you also need
European assets pack, The West Highland line (Mallaig extension) from Thompson interactive for track, vegetation, Bridges and embankments, Weardale & Teesdale for industrial buildings & housing, Donner pass for viaducts and tunnels,
Rivera 1950's, Woodhead for ground textures, Settle to Carlisle for trees, and the AP Station pack from RSC for the majority of station structures & vegetation
Falmouth, WCML over Shap for the viaduct loft on the Scarborough line, Island line, Doncaster works and Sherman hill for a handful of non essential items that can be substituted with RW tools if you wish
UKTS freeware industrial, Blocks and lofts, Ambient Sounds and the wagon pack
What does it do?spionkop wrote:However, It doesn't because I think.....
Re: Installing RW Files
Hi Gary,
I've also installed Great Central route. They do both load up but an error message come up saying that the scenario failed to load. It gives a list of all the things it can't load. Then there are two boxes, one saying Edit and the other saying Exit.
I know now that it won't work until I have all the other stuff either buy from Steam or Just Trains etc., or download from uKtrainsim for free.
I'll just have to wait until I've got everything for them both.
Regards,
Steve.

Usually, this means that you do not have some of the statics or AI stock. Instead of pressing "Edit" or "Exit", press F2, say "yes" to "save changes", and you may be able to proceed.spionkop wrote:Hi Gary,

Re: Installing RW Files
Pressing F2 will work, as long as the missing items of rolling stock (nothing to do with the route as such, you're just missing some of the rail vehicles--more on this later) isn't something that interacts in some way with the player train; for example if a scenario is written to feature you being held at a signal whilst another train clears the line, you may be at that signal; for a long, long, long time waiting for atrain that will never come. F2 is only handy for trouble shooting really, but not for game play.
If you're missing items of stock this isn't hard to *fix* using RW Tools (http://www.rstools.info/downloads.html) which makes the job of swapping items you don't have with those you do very easy. There are plenty of folk in here to help if you get stuck, and it even has it's own sub-forum here which the author of the software (Mike Simpson) monitors pretty closely, so you'd not be waiting long for help and advice.
