Mideast Plus acts in Open Rails
Hi all,
I've been trying to run stn-7.30 Kings Cross to Edinburgh. After refuelling and connecting to the train, the loco that brought the train in does no show up in F9 Train Operations-box. This means that there is no way uncouple the loco from the last coach. I did try to uncouple the last coach but it didn't work properly as the loco would be going in reverse.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
Regards,
Steve.

Hi Steve,
It worked properly for me. You have scrolled the F9 Train Operations box right, so you can see the last item in the consist, haven't you. That's all I can think of.
Martin
PS. you do mean OpenRails don't you. This is headed OR, but is in the MSTS forum.

Hi Martin
Thanks for your reply. The other loco definitely wasn't showing after the last coach in F9. I have tried it a few times but it didn't make any difference. Maybe I should uninstall Open Rails and reinstall it. I've also has problems in Thames-Trent acts as well.
Regards,
Steve.

Re: Mideast Plus acts in Open Rails
Here's what works for me.
1. Couple up to train.
2. Scroll to extreme right of F9 display and uncouple car 32769-0 which is the loco at the buffers.
3. Press "SHIFT" + "/" to reset all the brakes, handbrakes and hoses; the brakes won't release if you don't.
4. When you enter the platform, your loco is in forward gear so put it into reverse before you try to leave otherwise you'll just back into the previously uncoupled loco.

Re: Mideast Plus acts in Open Rails
Absolutely right, Dennis. Exactly as I have done it, with the exception of stage 4. Here I switched cabs so that I am facing Edinburgh (need to apply brakes and select neutral). Then you can drive forwards as usual. Probably also solves "but it didn't work properly as the loco would be going in reverse".
Steve, after coupling up can you go into external camera and shift down the train until you can see the loco at the buffers? If so you don't need to reinstall anything.

Re: Mideast Plus acts in Open Rails
Yes, you're right. I was still in camera 6 on my test, I hadn't "got back in the cab" when I drove off so hadn't noticed I was still facing the buffer stops! I tend to do all the "close quarters" manoeuvring in camera 6 because I can judge close distances better and it automatically switches to the "forward" end after reversing points.brace2011 wrote:.. with the exception of stage 4. Hi Martin & Dennis,
I haven't got round to reinstalling OR so I'll give this another go, hopelly it will work.
I'm also having some problems with other routes but I'll hopfully sought this one out first.
Thanks very much for yur help, very much appreciated. I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: Mideast Plus acts in Open Rails
Hi Martin and Dennis,
I've just tried the act again and got nowhere. I followed all the points you mentioned but I could not get it to move either way. The car 32769-0 is not showing in F9 display but I can see the loco at the buffers. Martin, you mentioned switching cabs so that you are facing Edinburgh. Presumably I do not need to reinstall Open Rails.

Hi Steve
Forget about this activity for the time being. Let's do some tests.
First load 'Explore route' with any train (1 diesel engine + some coaches (at least 6)) in any route (I tend to use Westvale for testing because it is quite small and loads quickly, but you could perhaps use the default Settle/Carlisle route). Open F9 Train Operations box, and keep it open throughout.
Now uncouple the loco and edge forward a little - you should see the effect in both F9 and external view. If this works, then 'uncouple' works OK. Now edge back to the coaches and couple up. Once again you should see the effect in both F9 and external view. If this works, then 'couple' works OK. Now scroll right in the F9 Train Operations box (use the little arrow at the bottom right of the box) until you can see the last coach Uncouple it. You should see the effect in F9. Now press [SHIFT] & [/] together to 'initialise' the train brakes, then edge forwards. You should have left the last coach behind. If so, then both the F9 Train Operations box and 'uncouple work properly.
If all that works you can return to the activity and carry out the same procedures, and you should have success.
Either way, let us know what happens

Re: Mideast Plus acts in Open Rails
Hi Martin & Dennis,
I did as you suggested and everythng worked Ok. So I went back to try the activity I am having trouble with. That worked as well managing to disconnect the rear loco. But when I get into the cab I am still facing the wrong way. So I am in reverse travelling to Edinburgh.
How do I change to the correct end?

Re: Mideast Plus acts in Open Rails
If you have the bin patch applied you should be able to press F9 and then click on the cab you wish to be in and then press 1.
Stan (hope that works for you.)

Hi Steve,
Good. Now you've done that you might want to look at the other method of uncoupling in OpenRails.
Go into external view (key [3]) and move down the train until you can see the loco at the buffers and the coach attached to it. Now press and hold , the left-click on the relevant coupling in the main game window. Result - loco uncoupled. Particularly useful for uncoupling trucks while shunting, but can be used anytime.
