Station Stopping Points.
What is it in TS that determines if you've stopped at a station correctly?
I've just been playing JT's B'ham-Marylebone route, all was going well until I
stopped at Banbury at the 6 car stop board (with a 6 car train).
Annoyed to see on departure I had the 'X' as in failed to stop.
I know there are some routes / stations (probably the majority) that as
long as you stop with the train in the platform you get the tick yet there
are others - like Banbury - where you have to pull right down to the very
end of the platform - and if that's the case then I think the xx-coach stop
boards ought NOT to be modelled.

The stations on Chiltern are set so you can stop anywhere on the platform, are you sure you were on time?

Re: Station Stopping Points.
Failed to stop doesn't just mean the stop was missed; you can get that if you're late. When you opened the doors did you see the progress bar in the HUD, did you use an outside view to see that the doors had opened?

Re: Station Stopping Points.
Was it a timed stop?
If so and you were late, then it'll not matter whereabouts on the platform you stop.
That said, CML is one of those routes on which TS seems to run two clocks. So I've arrived on time and early for stops on scenarios on this route and still get 'X-ed' by the dispatcher

Can't say I've had that issue Richard?

Re: Station Stopping Points.
Re timing : Yes, I was late by no more than 90 seconds - couldn't keep to time because
the unit (16x) wa slow (to my mind). On an approx. 4 mile 1 in 180 downhill, throttle wide open I gained 0.1mph!

Which scenario did you play, Dave?

Re: Station Stopping Points.
Tim.
The scenario in question is 1H35 1112 Snow Hill-MYB.
I'll try running it from the start again (I had previously saved and resumed).
Don't know if it's my train or not, but on level track at 60mph, with the power
handle at 30% I lose speed. Have to go to 50% to increase speed and at higher
speeds (approx. 85mph) it won't increase unless the power handle is at 100%.
Edited to add : Re-run it just now, and it's me at fault. Managed to get to Banbury
and open the doors ONE second before time* - and got the tick. Would be interesting
to know how late you could be before you got the 'X' against the stop.
* - had to do 93 in a 90 for a couple of miles between Leamington Spa & Banbury.

Re: Station Stopping Points.
If the timed stop is say 11.02.15 then you have up to 11.02.59 in which to stop and get the tick against it. If on the hour (12.00.00) then you have until 12.00.59 etc, etc.davep wrote:Tim.

The HUD on the F4 screen sadly doesn't "line up" with what's actually going on with the Kuju 166 unfortunately,if you use the F5 one that's an accurate reading I believe. In terms of timings, they're very tight on purpose, one of the more tricky scenarios.
Re: Station Stopping Points.
Whilst the diesel-hydraulic model appears to have some major flaws, IMO this is not one of them - I believe this is actually fairly realistic.davep wrote:Don't know if it's my train or not, but on level track at 60mph, with the power

Torque converters rely on some 'slip' (i.e. the engine going faster than the wheels, accounting for gear ratio) to generate torque (i.e. tractive effort). Therefore as the train speed increases, the tractive effort drops off until the wheel speed matches the engine speed and you're left with none at all. At lower engine speeds, this happens at lower train speeds.
This is different to a diesel-electric, where the load regulator (on an old one) keeps adjusting the generator field strength so that it continues to produce current even at low throttle settings and high train speed.
I've seen TE vs speed vs notch graphs for a DMU with a Voith (hydraulic) transmission, and they generally agree with this - the TE curves fall to zero at lower speeds in lower notches.

Re: Station Stopping Points.
Just do what I do go into the editor on timetabled scenarios and remove the tick for timed stops in the player train instructions, as far as I'm concerned saying that you failed to make the stop for being a second or so late is daft.

Re: Station Stopping Points.
I have. Seems to affect evening and late night scenarios mostly, though did see it on a mid-morning call at Banbury.almark wrote:Can't say I've had that issue Richard?
Not necessarily a route issue btw, more so seems to be game related.
A thread started on this concern the other week:
