MSTS Installation help please
I have purchased MSTS xplosiiv disks and using the steam4me tutorial on how to install msts on my windows 7pro I proceeded and was able to follow the instructions on the whole.
I have got to the situation where it tells me to start MSTS but I have got the message at the startup that I cannot proceed because I need to be the administrator.
Looked up how to become administator at google and got as far as being told to enter CMD? as per attachment below.
do I delete the john part and retype as per the first black page showing (at back) ?
The other instructions I was uncertain about is setting to READ/Write.
also I cannot open Howintheworld.com isthis now unavailable? (needed for the interface quick fix route selection change)

Re: MSTS Installation help please
Hi Devonman2,
Right click on the MSTS desktop icon, select properties, compatability and then select "Run as Administrator" and all should be well.

Hi devonman2,
It looks as though you are already an administrator so, no, you shouldn't need the DOT command.
In the Properties window there is a Target entry which should end in train.exe and not launcher.exec, try that and see what happens.

Re: MSTS Installation help please
Right click on the MSTS desktop icon, choose the "Compatibility" tab and click on the box beside "Run this program as administrator" (there should now be a tick in it). Click OK and all should be good.stephenrwells wrote:Hi Devonman2,

Re: MSTS Installation help please
Thanks all for replies had another session re all above advice.
No luck so far.
I am going to uninstall MSTS put in today as per steam4 tutorial, and start again later tomorrow.
I have spotted the program installed as per patch 1.3 and should be 1.4 so perhaps that new installation is needed.
Will post a progress report .
Thanks.

Re: MSTS Installation help please
Hi,
If you're still getting an error message; could you post a screenshot of the actual message?
I've installed MSTS onto W7 and above numerous times; and ensuring that the "run as Administrator" is ticked in the short-cut properties has always done the trick for me.

Re: MSTS Installation help please
Hi devonman2,
As far as I'm aware, there's no such thing as MSTS v1.3 - it's 1.0, 1.2 or 1.4. Before you applied the update from Steam4Me, your Xplosiv version would have shown 1.2 - after the update, it would have become 1.4.
Do EXACTLY as Geoffrey, Stephen and David have suggested and you should be OK. This is always assuming that you HAVE followed the Steam4Me tutorial and NOT installed into C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86). Note that when applying the v1.4 update, you MUST change the path to the MSTS root folder.
At this point, you can ignore the "howintheworld" problem as it's not essential for MSTS to run.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS Installation help please
At the risk of muddying the waters, and assuming you are using W7, isn't there a requirement to ensure that on the Security tab of the Properties the boxes are ticked in the Allow column?
Working on exMT Thumper Project.

Hi Alec,
I've never seen such a column - do you mean allow "Full Control"?
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS Installation help please
I am attaching a series of screen shots, (I have not yet uninstalled msts) displaying settings.
Iam shown as Administrator and other settings.
Also all items ticked at security tab apart from bottom line.
I think I will have to uninstall, now getting abnormal monitor displays, black screen and unusual displays.
Thanks I will come back again shortly I hope with good report!

Re: MSTS Installation help please
Yes I did! If I remember correctly you could add a group called Everyone after clicking on Edit and then tick "Full Control"? I tend to do it as standard; i.e. right click on shortcut and/or relevant exe file, click on Properties and follow the above.slipperman12 wrote:Hi Alec,That's new to me, mate!isn't there a requirement to ensure that on the Security tab of the Properties the boxes are ticked in the Allow column?

Re: MSTS Installation help please
Hi, those are the permissions for system! Click the administrator group to show the permissions for that group. You would only normally need the compatibility tab and select run as administrator from there for the Train.exe, Launcher.exe and Mprofile.exe. You might need to use explorer to look at the cd if your problem is with the installer then right click setup.exe and choose run as administrator.
Re: MSTS Installation help please
Thanks Mark, I did uninstall msts yesterday and intend to do a rerun incase I misread steam4 details and will bear in mind your advice in addition.
