Help with AI Consist creation for route

Post by dgm486 »

Hi,
I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but I'm struggling to create AI consists for a route. I'm working with the (really brilliant) Devon Rails v3. I've created the spawn markers for AI, but then ovbiously, I need to have consists of the right type assigned to this route so they appear. The easy way looks to be to use RWTools. In the QD Consist Editor, I am selecting an existing consist, selecting an additional route, clicking Add Selected Route(s) and Saving, but then when I go back and look at the consist in the Consist Editor, the number of routes it is available for is exactly the same. Tried different consists and adding different routes. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

I also have tried the Blueprint Editor method as described in Matt Peddlesden's blogg. This is more cumbersome, and it seems to save ok, but doesn't reault in any AI showing up in the senario.

Doesn't help that I am a bit lost where consists are all stored and what locations a senario for a particular route checks.

Any suggestions from the wisdom and experience here would really be appreciated.

Many thnaks.

Hi Smarty2,
Not at all, I know just enough to get into trouble :-)
Thanks for your suggestion. I assume you mean in the scenario? If so, I'm starting simple with QD scenarios where the AI just moves when the player train gets close. But can't find a way for consists to be allocated to the route so they show up. For example adding additional regional passenger consists. Looks like it should be easy to do in RWTools, but I must be missing something.

Thanks

Quick Drive isnt to bad once you get into it.

Might help but others with better memories may be able to point you at good written guides
I for the moment have forgotton where they are.
TS QD consists are stored in an unmarked file as text.
Make and allocate routes to QD consists in RW_Tools where its much more logical.
The one trap I found is knowing what > type < name of consist to allocate because these are already in the AI spawn points along the route
If they are looking for express passenger then they wont let a freight appear, (for example) These trackside markers also allocate where the AI end up on the route, not you.
Best I can do,trying to sort broken car.

Hi John,

Thanks for the ChrisTrain's link. Looks similar to Matt's Blueprint Editor blog, so perhaps I should give this approach another go.

I've placed all the markers in the senario, with train type, stops and end points. The bit I'm struggling with is mapping some of my many consists to the route so they randomly spawn. Looks like it should be so easy in RWTools in the QD Editor, but for me at least, this doesn't work.
