Resolution problems after Windows Creator Update again.

Post by firetrap1 »

Hi all,

So I realise this is a very specific issue, but I can no longer run TS2017 (or any other game) in 4K on my 32inch 1080p monitor after last week. I haven't changed any cables or any part of my hardware setup so I am thinking this is more a software issue.

everything was fine beforehand and the difference between 1080p and 4K on my setup was fantastic. If anyone has had a similar issue or can point me to somewhere that could help then I'm open to ideas.

Short of buying a 4k monitor or Tv panel, or reverting windows back to the previous version (which I'm not keen on due to this ransomeware virus going around) I have tried everything and searched all over forums the past week.
I'm fine upgrading my HDMI cable going into my tv if it's not up to the newest spec (it is very old and can't remember the spec), but for the life of me I don't understand why everything worked before and not now.

I purchased the monitor when buying the original 'Railworks' and would very much like to keep it.

I was hoping it was just either the windows software, 'gamemode' settings or how the software handles downsampling of the 4K image. I always kept my desktop set to 1080p and changed resolutions to 4K inside the games I play.
:-?

thanks
chris

Chris
I had issues with MS Edge not displaying correctly and I performed a clean install of the latest NVidia driver 382.05 and that seemed to work.

As Chris said have you updated your display driver? Seems the blindingly obvious thing to do first

If you are using Nvidia for your graphics I would suggest visiting there forum(https://forums.geforce.com/default/boar ... e-drivers/) as there has been major issues with the creators update of windows.
I am using version 378.92, and sticking with it until the issues are resolved.

Alas, I'm currently on NVidia 382.05 drivers and I'm going to try a revert to the driver you are on (if GeForce experience will let me). Using a clean install of 382.05 has got me nowhere

Don't roll back or revert the driver - its best to remove the 382.05 driver and then perform a clean install of a previous one.

From nvidia
Do Not Use Windows Rollback for Graphics Drivers
To reinstall a previous or older NVIDIA graphics driver, do not use the Windows rollback feature. This method will not reliably restore all the previous driver files.
Instead, use the Windows Add and Remove programs to remove the current driver, and then install the older driver using setup.exe.

Uninstalling Drivers Using Device Manager is Not Supported
Issue
On all supported versions of Microsoft Windows, uninstalling the NVIDIA driver using the Windows Device Manager may not remove associated files or applications.
Explanation
Microsoft has confirmed that this behavior is by design. If you wish to uninstall the NVIDIA driver, it is recommended that you do so using Add and Remove programs.
See the Microsoft KB article 2278714.

Dont know if this is relevent,

NVIDIA display driver has multiple kernel vulnerabilities

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any crazier…
Günter Born just posted a warning that NVIDIA graphics drivers contain kernel-mode vulnerabilities.
NVIDIA’s Security Bulletin 4462, issued May 9 and updated today, lists 15 separate security holes, each identified with a CVE number.
NVIDIA GPU Display Driver contains a vulnerability in the kernel mode layer handler
Better get your NVIDIA drivers checked. GeForce drivers should be at 10.18.13.8205 or later. You can check your NVIDIA driver version number through Device Manager.

You also need to read the nVidia security bulletin 4462 linked to in that article-- http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4462
NVIDIA doesn’t know of any exploits to these issues at this time.
Remember that many vulnerabilities reported in anything are more theoretical than prevalent.

Hi all,
just some further info I received via the AMD forum :- Windows 10 Creators Update needs new drivers to support it's features. Your HD 5800 products has been moved to legacy status for which no new drivers will be released.

I would recommend you revert to the previous version of Windows 10.
Which I did, it remains to be seen if Microsoft will let me stay there.
