Moving assets to another folder?

Post by 37180sirdyfed »

Just wondering, would it be possible to move "rail vehicles" to a separate asset folder?
I'm trying to create a scenario on the western lines route. I would like to use the class 143 from the riviera route and the class 377 from Brighton route. In order to use these vehicles, I have to add two routes to the scenario. Needless to say, the scenario crashes.
Would it work, if I were to move the class 143 fgw, to the DTG Class 143 folder? Or do the rail vehicles have to stay in their nominated folder :-?

Anything from DTG won't display properly if moved. Even if it was possible you'd need to edit every .bin file at least to make it work.

What happens if you enable both routes in the editor but don't add the rolling stock?
Does the scenario load with just one of the routes enabled?
Have you considered porting the livery textures over, effectively creating a reskinned version of the 143?

Thanks for your reply!! I wish DTG would release separate packs for rolling stock, and not including them with routes.

But by doing that you increase the required number of ticks for the route the stock comes with, particularly if you have more than one item - take Riviera in the Fifties, I wouldn't fancy a tick for each of the pieces of rolling stock every time I wanted to write a scenario for it, there's at least 10 differents sets of things.

Let's turn things around a bit..... can you create a new scenario in another route, try a biggie such as WCML-N, and see what happens when you enable Riviera and Brighton.

The one thing I think we can all agree on is that ain't a 'one stop, one size fits all solution'. Possibly another selectable layer under the existing Product selection would be a start---in this case DTG>Route Name>Rail Vehicles--as long as not ticking that box enabled the assets to, for if you really wanted the Scenery etc available for selection.

I've made a scenario for just trains Newcastle to Edinburgh route. I've ticked the box for DTG east coast main line, so that I could use the HST. The scenario works reasonably well. Unlike DTG Bristol to Swansea and JT western lines, where the scenarios crash

Western Mainlines I can understand, as it's pushing the limits a bit, but Bristol to Swansea should be within the boundaries.
I've just created a new scenario in Bristol to Swansea, starting at Bristol Temple Meads, and enabled ECMLS, Riviera, JT's Chiltern line (haven't got Western Mainlines) and stuck a couple of dozen or so drivable rail vehicles on the track around the station. Selected a Riviera class 43 as the player train and gave it a final destination of Swansea.
It ran fine, though of course I didn't drive it all the way but it does suggest you/we need to look a little deeper.

So....what are your system specs and where do you have Steam/TS installed?
When a scenario crashes do you get any error messages on screen?---if so it is always along the same lines?

Thanks your help!!
I have ts installed on d: I run high spec Alienware pc.
I usually get temp dump error and the game crashes from the start.
Scenarios perform well, when I don't add assets from another route. I guess, I'll just have to confine my fgw class 143 to the riviera line :D

How much free space do you have on C:/ and what is it's capacity?
Is the error a "failed to write..." or just information that a dump file has been created?
How high spec is "high spec"?

I doubt there's any big difference between the 2 class 143 models you have, so it should be possible to port the livery over as a reskin---I'll look into that when I get home.
