Route Riter Problem

Post by dforrest »

I have just upgraded from Vista Home premium 64 to Windows 7 Home Premium 64.

When I start Route Riter (version 7.6.26) I get the error message:
An Error No.13 Type mismatch occurred while loading main
Route_Riter screen.
Check Reports\Startup.log for possible errors.
RR appears to run OK and the Startup.log file is an empty file.

Can anyone help?

Hi David
I cannot locate anything on Error 13 for Route Riter but I have found "How to fix the error 13 error" on WikiFixes.
This might as well be written in Chinese for all the help it is to me. I suspect that if your problem is anything to do with this, then once you have sorted it out this page will actually mean something.

Not a good start Garry. Norton has blocked the link as a dangerous site.

That link invites users to download some software. While it may well be perfectly harmless, better or may be safer to find some other way of dealing with the problem.

Hi David,
Error 13 seems to be a Visual Basic error - I understand Route_Riter was written using VB.
This may not be the answer, but it's probably worth a try, as you're running an almost virgin system! Download and install the VB6 runtimes from Microsoft, here : https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/downloa ... x?id=24417

Ged, two comments before I go ahead with this:

1. The file downloaded is VB6.0-KB290887-X86.exe. I have Windows 7 64 bit installed.

2. The Supported Operating Systems noted on the Microsoft download page are:
Windows 2000, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP
Will either of these present a problem? I do not want to make the situation worse than it is now!

Hi David,
It should be OK - I have the dll (msvbvm60.dll) in my SysWOW64 folder.

This is what Microsoft have to say (about 1/3rd way down page for Win 7) : https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/ms788708.aspx

They also say that the VB6 routines are shipped with Win 7, so before you go any further, have a look in your SysWOW64 folder - if the file is there then, that's not the reason for your error, unless it's not correctly installed, for some reason.

Cheers,

As an aside I assume that you have Java installed and updated to the latest version (jre1.8.0_121) bearing in mind the concerns overs its vulnerability. In addition it always helps to check that the "classes" folder is present in the main Java folder.

Thanks Ged and Alec.

Ged - I have msvbvm60.dll in my SysWOW64 folder, I also have files named msvbvm60.$$A to msvbvm60.$$J.

Alec - I have checked Java and it appears to be installed OK.

Ged, very strange.

I extracted the vbrun60sp6.exe file using the file downloaded from the link and tried to run it. Absolutely nothing happened. I then tried to run it as administrator and again nothing happened.

Any suggestions?

My computer also uses Windows 7 64 bit. Route Riter (latest Mike Simpson version) is located away from the C drive but Java is located in Programme Files (x86).
Route Riter works OK and gives the following Startup report:-

Start
Write version number
Check for Tview.exe
Check for TgaTool2a.exe
Set Language
Check for Envstring
Check for mwgfxvb.dll
Check for TsUtil
Check for TrainStore
Get Startup settings
TryAgain: - Get file settings
Check RoutePath
Check for Common Path
Check for Languages
Language = Lang_English.txt
MSTS Path = J:\0MSTS
Set Language Menu
Set Language
Check for Global sound path
Global sound path = J:\0MSTS\Sound
Check for Aceit
Looking for existing routes in J:\0MSTS\Routes
Following routes found:-
J:\0MSTS\Routes\BC1
J:\0MSTS\Routes\Black Country - LNWR
J:\0MSTS\Routes\EB_LSC
J:\0MSTS\Routes\EUROPE1
J:\0MSTS\Routes\EUROPE2
J:\0MSTS\Routes\JAPAN1
J:\0MSTS\Routes\JAPAN2
J:\0MSTS\Routes\LeedsSettleCarlisle
J:\0MSTS\Routes\MyRoute
J:\0MSTS\Routes\NWE_v3.0
J:\0MSTS\Routes\TUTORIAL ROUTE
J:\0MSTS\Routes\USA1
J:\0MSTS\Routes\USA2
Check Route J:\0MSTS\Routes\Black Country - LNWR
Java system/TsUtils working OK, confirmed
Changed main screen caption
Mainroute = 1
OriginalRef = J:\0MSTS\Routes\Black Country - LNWR\BC1.ref
Stuffit.ref must have been found
Settings saved in registry
Texturepath = J:\0MSTS\Routes\Black Country - LNWR\Textures
Tilepath = J:\0MSTS\Routes\Black Country - LNWR\Tiles
Shapepath = J:\0MSTS\Routes\Black Country - LNWR\Shapes
Soundpath = J:\0MSTS\Routes\Black Country - LNWR\Sound
Delete spare files
Spare files deleted
Setup Complete......

Might be worth comparing this with your Startup report?

Check for TsUtil
Check for TrainStore

I've just run Route Riter and carried out several tasks and when I close the startup log is as posted in my previous post! I can't see why yours stops when it does?

Out of interest do you get the TsUtil_startup.log in the reports folder?

Alec, I wonder why your Startup.log end with the line "Setup Complete......"

I have a TsUtil_startup.log file but it has not been updated since 26 February and I have used RR several times since then.

Hi David,
Where have you installed Route_Riter?
If it's C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86), that could be the cause of your trouble!

I don't have your "files named msvbvm60.$$A to msvbvm60.$$J", so they may be caused by the problem - ?anti-virus?
