Post by alanwbrown »

Hi all.
Having had to reinstall windows10 I find my Nvideo card settings are not what they were.
Can any-one remember what setting are needed on the control panel.
The card is GeForce GTX 560
Thanks for any help

Which Control panel?...Windows or nVidia?

Whichever, the correct settings are those that suit you, so essentially you're on your own when it comes to the fine tuning with much depending on what you want to achieve.

Thanks gptech
The control panel I refed to was for the Nvidia card
I know I had it set up for Rail simulator but can't remember the settings.
With the new drivers even the control is different.

Alan
In the NV control panel there are several new settings, and now they may be NVidia card dependent ie they vary from card version so a 560 may not have the same settings as a 960/1060..
The major setting for TS2017 under "manage 3d settings" make sure they are for railworks.exe you set the following:
Anti-Aliasing Mode - Application Controlled
AA setting - Ditto
MFAA - ON (if present)
Optimise for Compute performance - ON if present
Multidisplay/mixed gpu acceleration - Single Display Performance Mode (for 1 monitor)
Texture Filtering - Negative LOD Bias - allow (Clamp may not work)
Vertical sync try "FAST" (NEW) then if that is no good "Adaptive".
Rest as per Global

The best setting ever!
Fast sync is just great, no stuttering or anything - it breathed new life into TS for me
Only works with Maxwell and Pascal cards I think.

I wish someone could do this for the AMD control panel

The crimson thingy is way too complicated for me

Thanks Peter
Not all items you listed are available but at least it gives me a base to start from.
Trouble is, altering the settings one doesn't see imeadatley what the result is.

These are my "older" settings from 2015 and would possibly suit your 560 better: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6m3xdi027uckp ... d.pdf?dl=0 or https://www.dropbox.com/s/6m3xdi027uckp ... d.pdf?dl=0 discussion http://railworksamerica.com/forum/viewt ... 33&t=12713 .
I do use DSR (nvidia downsampling in Global settings) in these settings but you can cancel that if you want.
The big trick is to ensure that your windows resolution for your monitor including DSR is the same in TS 2017.

Thanks for your answer Peter.
Unfortunately the Drop Box
links didn't work. showed up as an error 404. I tried the American site but some of it was hardly readable.
Still I might have enough to get me up and running.

Alan
Sorry about the link - Try the dropbox link from the RWA forum post - it works from there OK!

What was the problem?

Hi Peter
Tried the RWA link, worked a treat.
Have altered my settings to suit and RW runs OK. A few things might need a slight tweak but nothing major.
Thanks for your help.
It is a pity Nvidia doesn't advise on the settings for RW.

Just tried those settings with TS2017 and first impressions are that the previously sluggish FPS on my Win10 system (i7-4790/GTX970/SSD/Acer XB270HU G-Sync) has gone through the roof.

Hi, love the new fast vsynch setting - stopped all of the tearing, but the other settings caused me problems with tree shadows leaping forward - I'm using a modified shader so it might be an interaction with that. :) Thanks for sharing.
