Problems changing an Asset on MML
I'm trying to Change a Speed Board on MML - Bedford - St Pancras.
The one on the Up Main south of Elstree and Borehamwood before the Tunnel shows 110MPH which is wrong - should be 100mph for the Tunnel.
Lat 51.64778 - Long -0.27697
I have changed Speed boards and Signals before so it should work but it does not.
Trying to select the assets does not work either- tried from all different angles
The Lock for the Route is Off
The Move/Rotate/Resize is on Move
The Assets have been changed from Read Only.
I' must be missing something obvious but I'm not sure what?
Any ideas
Peter

Re: Problems changing an Asset on MML
At the risk of stating the obvious, have you changed the speed limit of the track itself? Nearly all speed signs that I can think of read the track properties and the values set there are what the sign displays.

With many speed signs, changing the track speed AFTER laying the sign, does not change the value on the sign (though the correct value does show in the HUD). If you still cannot select the sign, why not lay another one and use it to mask the first one (AFTER resetting the track speed)

That's one of my problems where the Gizmo in the track won't stay when I try to place it.brysonman46 wrote:With many speed signs, changing the track speed AFTER laying the sign, does not change the value on the sign (though the correct value does show in the HUD). Tried placing the same asset from DTG/Bed-Pan and the Gizmo stays where I place it.
The track Speed is not wrong as such but the Gizmo for the Speed sign is in the wrong place and shows the wrong speed - after you drive passed it the Speed in the F3 HUD drops from 110 to 100.
I've not worked why I cannot get the Gizmo to stay in the Track, tried Ctrl+click and Shift+click to place it.

Re: Problems changing an Asset on MML
So basically you don't need to change anything, just move the link for the speed sign to a section of track with the right speed assigned, but when you select the speed sign it doesn't actually select?
EDIT: Just tried here, and the sign selected easily enough so it's not particularly fussy about where you click, and moving the link a yard or so towards the tunnel had the desired effect.

But for some reason I cannot select itgptech wrote:So basically you don't need to change anything, just move the link for the speed sign to a section of track with the right speed assigned, but when you select the speed sign it doesn't actually select?

I've gone in to the Build > Route > MML found the sign and tried clicking on it and for me it won't select.
Clicked on the Signal Icon to see if that would help me select it but again it won't
And I tried putting a different sign in front but that Gizmo you stick it the track would not stay put.
Why does it not work? Do I need to select something else in the Editor?
Might be something obvious but I don't know. (arrgh !)

Re: Problems changing an Asset on MML
Well, that's a daft idea and though Nick meant well isn't good advice--a problem hidden is NOT a problem solved, and in this case it would seem to be a very basic problem tied to the essentials of the route.749006 wrote:And I tried putting a different sign in front but that Gizmo you stick it the track would not stay put.
First thing to test though:
can you select a speed sign in another route? Lets determine whether it is just specific to this route.
Can you select any already placed assets in MML?

I can select the same MML asset and place it in another route - tried that without a problemgptech wrote:Well, that's a daft idea and though Nick meant well isn't good advice--a problem hidden is NOT a problem solved, and in this case it would seem to be a very basic problem tied to the essentials of the route.749006 wrote:And I tried putting a different sign in front but that Gizmo you stick it the track would not stay put.

And I can select the tunnel mouth, ohle gantry, bushes and other things - just cannot get the gizmo to stick or select the speed board to either delete or move.

Re: Problems changing an Asset on MML
but you don't need to do either of those...all you need is to be able to click it and get the track link to show.749006 wrote:just cannot get the gizmo to stick or select the speed board to either delete or move.
What happens if you click square on to the face of the sign?
As you've said the link is just in the *wrong* place that suggests that something is working, so once you get the link showing you should be able to just move it.
If push comes to shove, can you use the 'track select' tool to selects the track from just within the 100mph limit to just past the link and change the speed in the properties box?
So you've extracted the assets and route files from the .ap archives?749006 wrote:The Assets have been changed from Read Only.
If so, what have you done with the .ap archives?
If you have the .ap archives still installed, and intact, does any editing give you a folder named Scenery or Networks etc in the ..\RailWorks\Content\Routes\00000034-d000-0000-0000-000000002014 folder?

I think Peter means the track link when he says "gizmo" - though I could be wrong!gptech wrote:but you don't need to do either of those...all you need is to be able to click it and get the track link to show.749006 wrote:just cannot get the gizmo to stick or select the speed board to either delete or move.

That's how I've been reading it too, so to know it's on the *wrong* bit of track does suggest that clicking on the sign works; either that or he's worked through the track view with the space bar to show the track related object links.brysonman46 wrote:I think Peter means the track link when he says "gizmo"

Re: Problems changing an Asset on MML
As, I read it, there are 2 problems. In his first post, he says that he "cannot select the asset". So presumably hovering near it does not cause it to "illuminate" so he can click it to select. therefore he cannot delete it.gptech wrote:That's how I've been reading it too, so to know it's on the *wrong* bit of track does suggest that clicking on the sign works; either that or he's worked through the track view with the space bar to show the track related object links.brysonman46 wrote:I think Peter means the track link when he says "gizmo"
Then he says that when he tries to lay a fresh example, the track link will not stay in the selected track, so the asset does not stay.
Peter, is that the correct interpretation (sorry to treat you as an invalid - "does he take sugar in his tea?")

Re: Problems changing an Asset on MML
I've not worked thru the track view with the space bar but I know it's wrong as it shows 110 mph but as you pass the sign on board a train the F3 Speed drops to 100 mphgptech wrote:That's how I've been reading it too, so to know it's on the *wrong* bit of track does suggest that clicking on the sign works; either that or he's worked through the track view with the space bar to show the track related object links.brysonman46 wrote:I think Peter means the track link when he says "gizmo"
The Track Link thingy is what I called the Gizmo.
But I cannot -
(a) - select the speed board, or either side of the track
(b) - place a new speed board or Signal anywhere on this route as the 'thingy' won't stay where I try to click
If I go to a different route no problem in placing the same speed board.
I thought could it be the route not selected but in the RHS flyout DTG>BedPan is ticked.
I must be doing something wrong in the sequence for it to work on one route but not another - but I don't know what?

Re: Problems changing an Asset on MML
That's Spot on Nick - when I move along the track various scenery items highlight as my mouse moves over them and I can delete or move these items without any problem.brysonman46 wrote: As, I read it, there are 2 problems. Just the Signalling Assets don't wish to play along.
And I'll have milk & two sweeteners, thanks

Re: Problems changing an Asset on MML
Quick and dirty solution:
Peter, paste the contents of this .zip archive into your ..\Content\Routes\00000034-d000-0000-0000-000000002014 folder.
https://ln.sync.com/dl/1c5facfd0#jy8apv ... r-9i4k2zb5
If you've already extracted the contents of the .ap archive, rename the existing ..\Content\Routes\00000034-d000-0000-0000-000000002014\Networks\Tracks.bin file to Tracks.bin.ORIGINAL or whatever else makes sense to you---I would recommend though that any renaming be after the .bin extension so that the game doesn't even bother trying to read it, and also makes it obvious what it was to start with.
That doesn't fix the issue of not being able to select the sign though, so that still needs investigating.
