Church Bells may ring......

Post by bootednancy »

Greetings:
I have started running Stanley Brown's new activity, the 10:00 Manchester to Sheffield with a train of MK-1s and a 76 EM-1 on the Woodhead v4.3 route.

Great activity for the semi modern era of a route I never got to see before closure. Activity is going very well, EXCEPT almost every 10 to 15 seconds there is this ANNOYING alarm bell that keeps going off in the engine, even if I do nothing.

I have the ALERTER function unchecked on the Options page for the program, BUT IT STILL KEEPS GOING OFF.

How do I get rid of this wretched annoying sound, is it part of the route or in the engine file???

Thanks for the help and solution..........("Church Bells may ring" was the title of a 1950's rock & roll song in the USA)

Hi Doug, what you are hearing is the AWS sound and if you are like me and don't like it and there is a way of disabling it.
Go into the Route Sound folder and look for the Signal.sms file, this is 2Kb in size and rename it Woodhead-Signal.sms, now go into the Default
Europe 1 Route folder and again look in the Sound Folder and copy that Signal.sms which is only 1kb in size and paste it into the Woodhead Sound
folder and when you run the route the Bell will be gone.

Cheers

This sound should only play when you past a signal on your track. I actually do miss this type of sound when running routes in OR.

An unsuitable attachment and avatar has been removed from this post. If they reappear again then moderator approval of posting will follow since this is not the first time they have been removed.

Correct, it is possible also to set up the AWS horn sound and associated need to press the alerter when approaching a yellow/red, Jon Bilton did it with some DMUs.

OK...trying that now and looks like it is working....thanks very much for the help.....

Coolhand:
Yes, it appears to have played at EVERY signal....and some big interlockings, it never stopped going off every second with a number of signals.

On my setup it also seems to play whenever an AI train goes through a signal nearby, don't know if there is a way of turning that off.

Seems you've not read the forum rules, Nancy: http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 68&t=58279

For your info, I was one of the members who reported your post, because I did find your avatar and attachment (not really sure why you attached a photo of your own avatar?) distasteful and vulgar in a forum designed to appeal to all ages. The site owner makes the rules, ot individual members, and you agree to them when you sign up for an account here, as we've all done. If, however, they're not to your liking, well there's always those other forums you speak of....

In the routes sound folder, try changing the distance for the cabcam from 75 to 10 or 5 in the signal.sms file. I haven't used MSTS in a while, but i'm sure this was the case for AI trains passing a signal under 75 meters from the player train. 5 should totally eliminate the AI trains causing the bell to go off. Any lower than 5, the bell might not play when the player train passes a signal.

Thanks

OK fine.

You are now on moderator approval for posting. You can discuss this with the forum admin. I will be discussing this with him tomorrow. Resorting to Commies and Nazis jibes is not going to help your case.

Do I care if you walk away from this forum in a huff : no. I have clear direction from the site owner and the forum admin that this is a family friendly site and your avatar that has been deleted several times is not acceptable. You have repeatedly replaced it and then attached it to posts. Not acceptable.

This is not about censorship - none of your posts have been deleted. Only images unacceptable to this site have been removed.
Kindest regards
