Re: Steam Account Possibly Stolen

Hi Trev and thanks very much for the suggestions. I have now done all of that and I'm relieved to say earlier tonight the account was restored to me. I've also used the extra mobile phone Steam Guard option.

I must say Steam have been excellent and quick on sorting out my problem, and at one stage their response was in minutes of my messages.

It's certainly been an eye opener as how easy your comfort zone can be upended.

Thanks to everyone who took time to offer suggestions or advice - it's all been very much appreciated especially when you're left with the feeling everything's going pear-shaped!

Cheers

Have just been reading this thread with interest. Thankfully this has never happened to me,yet!!! and hopefully never will, touch wood. Glad it's all sorted now and you've got you a/c back especially when you've spent quite a bit over the years and have it all disappear like that.

Great to hear the account has been restored to you and good to hear that you have added the extra Mobile steam guard bit as well to.

Surprising how quickly support was, but i imagine if re accounts they want them dealt with quickly. Do check your inventory if anything is missing etc or check trade history. Especially if you play CS:GO (The Attempts for my account, seem to always happen when used certain skins on CS) Also might suggest making your account to only be viewed by friends only as well.

Hi Chris

Yes I did a quick check to see if there was any tampering but as far as I can see everything seems to be ok. They had changed my name in my profile but that was easily changed back, and strangely according to the profile and activity nothing had apparently been played since the last time I had actually played myself!

Interestingly when they sent the activation code for re-setting my password they sent it to my old email address I had been using and it was in cyrillic! Maybe a bit of clue there :o

Thats good at least and odd.

Could well be so sadly, As when did play CS:GO it was attempts from either Russia or Germany sadly. (Although facebook for me was Spain :S) Would just keep a eye on your Vac status though for now, to see if anything does change and go through your friends list as well.

At least all back though now what is the important thing.

As an extra precaution Steam have also temporarily frozen transactions like purchasing/trading etc. so that's good too (well my wife would approve anyway  ).

Not sure how long that will last - maybe a week or so? - but there's nothing on the horizon I want anyway. I'm just glad this didn't happen before the sales :D :D

I believe about one or two weeks honestly. As when upgraded computer had a 14 day trade suspension, due to it being on a completely new system. Next sale will most likely be around Halloween, Depending if there is any Sci-fi, Horrorish etc type of games you would want.

Who needs Halloween with horror stories like that to read.

Interesting information to store for future reference if ever needed.

I have 2 Steam accounts, one I started up in 2010 for RW2 or 3 and one about 1999 for the game Halflife. None have been hacked. The Steam account I started in 1999 was frustrating sometimes as I was on dialup and when you had a Steam update when you wanted to start a game it took a couple of hours. Don't know if Steam had a off line mode back then.

I used a link that I received from Valve on a Paypal invoice. This took me to the Steam support page. I opened another support account with a different email address and in retrospect I guess I could have done that on Steam anyway. It's just that at the time I thought I was on a loser doing anything with Steam and so I was looking for an alternative route. As soon as I did that then the ball started rolling to restoring things. Previous to that I thought I was shut out of Steam altogether so I was panicking a bit
