Creating a new path

Have you given it a go? Post your experiences, particularly things that worked well. Let the team know what works and doesn't work as they cannot test the software with every combination of routes, activities and content available for MSTS. OpenRails is actively being improved and is quickly approaching v1.0. This is a great place to discuss what you can do with OpenRails.

Creating a new path

Post by Hannes44 »

Maybe a stupid question: the MSTS Editors don't work on my computer. How can I create a new path for OR to use the timetable?

You can make new paths and change existing ones using the ORTS Trackviewer. The menu item Help/shortcuts gives a short list of keys used.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't draw a new path. I can set a starting point, I can reverse the direction of the path, but the path doesn't go further than the next switch. In the docs it says:

"At this point in the editor is still under construction."

and

"The Path editor is intended to be an editor of MSTS paths. It is not intended to be an editor for new
ORTS-only paths...."

So it seems I'm still stuck.

You extend the path from node to node using the page up key, to delete a section between nodes, use the page down key. Key presses are listed in the Help/Shortcuts in the menu along the top. When you have completed your path, you can add the end point and save.

Thank you! I didn't realise that "show more of the path" would extend the path to the next node. Now I've got a new path. Maybe the "show more should be exchanged to "extend" the path....
