Western Region Midlands 1950's

Introduction 09/05/16

Hi all,
I am currently working on a route based around the Western Region of the Midlands in the 1950's, at the moment work is taking place on a section of the Banbury to Birmingham Snow Hill mainline with track laid between Warwick to Lapworth up Hatton Bank. I don't know as yet how far I will take the route but I will add the line to Leamington Spa and from Hatton to Stratford, I do fancy taking the line up to Snow Hill but it may be some time to get my head around the track layout from Tyseley onwards! In an ideal world the route would also go down from Stratford to Honeybourne across to Worcester and back to Snow Hill via Kidderminster but we will have to wait and see how far I get. Scenery is only present on a very small section of Hatton Bank along the section where the freight loop is just to the south of Hatton station.

Rowington Junction- Originally a line to Henley in Arden came off here, when the line closed a sort set of siding were retained to store condemned rolling stock.

Wow what with GWR Trains new steam route,Paddington to Oxford,and now your version we'll almost be able to drive all the way to Snow Hill,plenty of scope to run interegional cross country trains as well,all 4 Ex big 4 loco's and coaching stock could be seen from Banbury to Oxford on those trains,just need the missing link Banbury-Oxford.

And it's also another steam route,to run all the Great Western Loco's now available,I will watch the development of this route with interest,as there is also the SSS High Wycombe to Oxford as well.

Any part of the route for me,preferably around Tysly then we can use all the Western Region steam locomotives,including the Manor class,as some allocated there.

I wasn't planning on doing the Leamington to Coventry line as its not where my interest is but never say never, it looks like I will need to do down to Banbury then as that would be very good to drive all the way from Paddington up to Snow Hill! Thank you Yerkes, its the Riviera in the 50's track, hopefully I can show some more progress in a bit.

Maybe you could all get together,and see if you link it all up,that way you drive all the way to Birmingham from Paddington without a break,although the track used could be the problem.

Hi Michael, I'ts a good idea, or maybe even joining one or two routes.
We have so much now in the Bucks, Berks, Oxon;
RCS - Paddington - Oxford
Photon99 - Marylebone - Moore St, et all
SSS - Wycombe - Ardley - Oxford, et all

My motivations were;
1. To double the Granfield Branch back to GCML days and add QD. (completeted)
2. Find a route and add MOD Bicster and MOD Kineton railways.

As the Granfield was such a lovely route from Banbury by Steve Cunningham aand I knew it backwards, I asked if he minded me adding to it, as it was ok that is what I have started to do. The track North and South of Banbury is laid but nothing else yet.
The route now starts at Oxford and Bicster and goes up to Kineton via Banbury (the old GCML "Granfield" is still included and so far no extra assets are required.
Any thoughts anyone ?

Looking superb so far. It really would be wonderful to have Snow hill in trainsimulator, as it is a tragedy that the Edwardian station was demolished. Of course though I understand that such an extension would take a lot of work to complete, particularly between Tyseley and Snow Hill.
On the point of joining routes, this is not possible as the Wycombe lines have a route origin around Maidenhead, and the GWML 50s/60s shares the same origin as original Oxford - Paddington route.
However, chained scenarios could be possible, and I for one have always wanted to recreate this in trainsimulator:

I will try my best to get to Snow Hill, but as you say it will take time. Tonight I will tackle Leamington Spa as a bit of a built up to trying the Birmingham area in time, the route origin for this route is Hatton Station so joining is not really a possibility. I had completely forgotten about that video so thank you for sharing!

I love this route, it needs a tidy up but it's a really good effort.

Hi all,
Only a small update, seeing that Steam Sounds Supreme are extending the Wycombe branch to Banbury an extension from Leamington to Banbury is a must.
The good news - Currently I am about half way through the track work at Leamington with Leamington General done but I am yet to start with the Leamington Avenue station.
The bad news - All was going well but after a graphics driver update I can not currently use train sim as it will crash or run at around 6-7fps which is unplayable , hopefully I can get it sorted soon.
