I will agree with most of you that the AP Soundpacks do make a difference - I own about 18 of them - but this pack is not one of them.

If I'm going to by a sound pack to enhance the Audio of the train that is running I like to hear the sound of something doing the work.
The 442 Soundpack is like buying a sound pack for a DVT - or DTSO/DTCO in this case.

I've travelled and worked on most of the multiple units on the SWML and I have to say that the 442 in its default state was horrible, the sounds were most definitely not correct at all and having owned a lot of the other EMUs you can tell that these were reused from past units such as the old 455. I brought the 442 pack from AP straight away and it has vastly changed the units making them more realistic, as has been said before have you been in a driving cab of a multiple unit when it is moving the sounds are very quiet as the motors are nowhere near the cab unless you open the window and have a unit will some louder motors you won't hear them at all. However compare to a more modern unit such as a desiro where the motors are under the driving cabs (and even then the motors aren't really that loud). I get what you are saying that you would prefer to hear the motors working but for pure realism thats just not the case and you saying that you feel like you are buying a sound pack for a DTSO/DTCO in a way you are right but if you want a realistic unit then it does that, it gives proper working brakes which the units never had in the sim before with proper sounds off of a 442, it adds little things like DOO to add a bit more of a challenge and realism, as well as adding other little sounds that have all been recorded off an actual 442. Now if you feel the standard is for you great but the 442 sound pack from AP is more than just a sound pack and tbh if you get it you won't want to go back to the default 442 if you have ever been in the cab of one or driven one (as I have) because with the enhancements that AP have added really does take me back to when they graced the South Western Mainline.

i think it comes down to preference ie what you want to hear compared to what you hear i agree with both points trouble is with this and like many other games you please some people you wont please others there is never going to be a 100 percent satisfaction with everyone because we all like and want different things sadly that is just life. Good review on the sound pack though thanks. I will get it but it will be a sale purchase for me as for the time being i can live without it and like others i can guarantee who are on the fence about this one it will be a sale purchase as well. thanks for the review though as it does help others decide

There is a conundrum over sounds to do with what end-users are accustomed to. AP produce pro sound packs whereby cab sounds are as they would sound in the actual cab which is different to what most of us are familiar with standing watching from trackside and hearing the exhaust notes and external roar.

For many years in MSTS where you heard outside sounds on the inside, I never cottoned on that there is a massive difference even though it's obvious when you stop and think! Those of us that crave realism welcome the pro-sounds with open arms because it's a massive step forwards in realism and realism is the name of the game in simulation, literally...

The same thing applies to flight simulation. In the cockpit of a jetliner all you will hear of the engines is a distant turbine whine. Stand outside however and it sounds like Thor, the god of thunder, is trying to outdo his neighbour...

I must admit I find the 442's relatively quiet inside as a passenger. If I sit in a trailer next to the MSO of a 319/321, I can still hear it, in a 442 I have to be in the MSO to hear it, even in the motor coach it's still not that loud I find, vestibules seem to be better. Bear in mind the cab of a 442 is a good 2 coaches away from the motor's so it would surprise me if you couldn't hear it, especially when you are moving forward especially at speed, the sound would be carried backwards

A bit of a bump up but I seem to be having issues trying to release the brakes with the AP sound pack installed.

When my first load up a scenario with the 442 my brakes are fully on and no matter what start up procedure I follow I cannot move my brake handle to release. All other controls seem to move and work as they should. It is as if the unit's brakes are stuck in something like Emergency Brake mode

I've followed all the standard procedures, cleared cache, redownload, re install but no joy.

Any help appreciated
For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it ;-)

Hi Phil, have you shut the doors - is the interlock light on?

Hi Mark

Yes they are shut, the blue interlock light is on.

It the same whether I'm driving a scenario or just a simple quickdrive.

I can move the brake handle to off (released) using the HUD brake lever but the brakes go back on (applied) when I let go of the HUD brake lever

Does it work if you use either the cab lever or the keyboard (instead of the HUD)?

Parking brake is off (released) using both the incab switch using the mouse or "/" on my keyboard and both times the red "ON" indicator had disappeared, so I can only suppose that it's released.

I cannot move the incab lever using the mouse or move the brake lever using all the usual brake controls "[ ] ; ' , . "

It doesn't matter which Brake control I have selected via the switch to the left on the control dash (Auto brake or otherwise)

Looks like your brakes are still shut OFF.

There should be a procedure to move the brake lever into the actual braking position before it can be used - the brakes need to be unlocked.

There's another loco out there which has similar feature, I don't recall if it's the Class 40 from AP/RailRight or one of the JT advanced locos.

Try moving the brakes while having 'E' or 'R' pressed to get the brakes unlocked.

Cheers,
