Thompson Trent Valley Prototype Question

Post by JasonR002 »

Hi,
I’d like to write some BR based scenarios for this roused based around the 1992 / 1995 Era however I’m unsure which EMU units were used for stopping services.

Looking through the flicker website I can see 304 / 310 / 323 Emus which I assume were used for stopping services but none of these are available in game.

That said the class 350 Wikipedia page suggests that these units replaced class 170 DMUs so perhaps DMU was used prior to the class 170s?

I’m certain so of you will know for sure so any help will be greatly appreciated 

Regards,

Jason

Hi Jason
The nearest you can get is the class 303 and the blue\grey 303 reskin from dp simulations, http://www.dpsimulation.org.uk/rf72reskins.html

Or Silverlink 321 they ran from Euston-Birmingham New Street

Prior to 350s tge ocal services were usually worked by a 153 or 150, 170s would be seen very briefly at Nuneaton and Stafford working the Stansted to Liverpool Lime St services prior to the 350s, and prior to that you would have 323s at Stafford on Liverpool's as well as 156/158 DMUs on either of the legs between Liverpool and Stansted.

Can't ever remember 170s on the Trent valley locals, only on New St - Liverpool s. Stoke/Stafford to Nuneaton was a single car 153. The layout was very different to how it is now though.

Seems the mainstay of local services were the 153's, useful vid for ideas above.

In BR days and before the Coventry Nuneaton line was reopened to passengers most of the time the Trent valley local was worked by class 303 or 304 or sometimes 310/312 .
These services usually ran between Stafford and Rugby but the actual service was very Spartan compared to todays hourly service

After the Nuneaton Coventry line opened to passengers the service was connected with the TV locals and usually ran Coventry to Stafford worked by first gen DMU's .

A handful of trains continued to work between Stafford and Rugby and these where usually worked by EMU's .

Intercity services made various stops at the more larger stations (Nuneaton , Tamworth , Lichfield TV) during the day to soak up the extra patronage .

Before the Trent Valley was made in to 4 tracks from Armitage Jn to Tamworth a number of Virgin express services called Litchfield and Tamworth and to do so the trans had to cross to the platform line slowing down for the approach and departure. With the 4 track layout less express services call and a local service was introduced from Crewe to Euston with the 350 Emus which can do 100/110 mph to keep out of the way of other services when they need to use the fast lines.

Hi,
Just wanted to say I appreciate your replies which have been very helpful indeed.

I didn’t think to check YouTube for reference but I’m now hooked on the linked video above (especially the sound of the HST’s).

I was only 11 in 1995 so I never really got to appreciate the variety of traction / traffic still present at the time.

I will be sure to upload some scenarios as soon as they are finished 

In the mid-90s the Stafford-Nuneaton stopper was an extension of the Coventry-Nuneaton shuttle about 3 times per day. Commonly in my experience the mid-afternoon trip was a 156 - possibly as part of a Coventry-Leicester local diagram?

I never saw a 150 work this service - they worked the hourly Stafford-Walsall-New Street once this was extended from Rugeley Town to Trent Valley and Stafford.
