Adding items by grid ref?

Post by rkk01 »

Is it possible to add scenery items by grid reference / coordinates / lat & long???

To make it easier to apply chainage related items (eg speed restrictions) in the correct location, I have compiled a spreadsheet of eastings and northings for mileposts along the route. Now, I could place these "by eye" using the GE overlay and field boundaries...

... but figured it would be easier if I could just specify the coords. I'm away from my TS PC at the mo, but seem to remember that the item fly out had a cords entry???

Is this correct, and if not, is there a way to achieve this???

If you're doing milepost just measure along the track using the ruler between each one

I find that fairly hit and miss over extended distances, especially with lots of tight curves. Clearly, I'll still have to measure out the chainage between each post, but that has the benefit of being a max 800m and being between known fixed points (hopefully)

When you hover over pieces of track it tells you how long it is with the longest single sections possible in game being 500 metres.

It's even easier if you use the linear select tool that you use for changing track properties. As you run that out along the track, the length is displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen. No problems measuring out the 1609.34m between mileposts, even on twisty track. :)
