Whatley Quarry branch with added scenery

Post by RolandBP »

Whatley Quarry is the un-sceniced portion of the North Somerset route available from DTG. It is now fully sceniced with vegetation, buildings and working Stone Loaders.

Hi and thanks to all those who gave positive Ticks for it. I had got to 28 Ratings out of the 30 required, to be able to get it finalized for the Workshop. Then I decided to replace it with an updated version. Unfortunately, as I had removed the original version and uploaded the updated version last night, sadly I also lost all 28 ratings :(
On the bright side I now have 8 new ratings for the new version in one day. Anyone wishing to see the route finalized so they can write scenarios for it and upload them to the workshop, there is a need to give it the thumbs up once more.

I did add a Wagon Maintenance Building, which I discovered is on the route a couple of weeks ago, a lot more siding and destination markers and several 3-aspect signals in both directions of the track between Frome Market Station and the Junction, as I found this made for more interesting scenario creation. Further I lengthened the headshunt slightly at the far end of the quarry, so as to make it easier to reverse a pair of class 58 locomotives. One final thing I decided to do was to include some extra stone loaders to Tracks 1, 3 and 4 and the only working ones I could find are in the Stevens Pass route. These make the Quarry more interesting to view and operate.

If you find any items you think could be improved then please post here or over at the "Old Forums" on the Steam site.

Regards, Roland.

Thanks for that Nick, don't know why mine didn't work, but yours sure did. Gremlins?

I have tissied up some vegetation that was a little "Up-in-the-air" and now have all the new and original signals working from and to Frome Market station. All of the 8 loaders tested and working. That's 2 from Hatchet Hill and 6 from Stevens Pass.

Do we somewhere in our TS assets have a Modern Version of the Wagon Maintenance Building, like the one shown here at Whatley Quarry? If so I would like to swap it for the one I have had to use so far. This I would need before I can finalize the route. Something further I will do before I finalize the route is change the speed limit within the complex, that is if I find it is definitely lower than the 20mph. I feel sure it should more likely be about 10mph, but not found confirmation of this so far.
Lots of photos of the complex found here:

I would like to recommend getting the following video footage covering all aspects of the operating procedures at the quarry. I have just watched the whole 1 hour 20 minutes and found it to be of use in a couple more modifications of my scenery extension. I would like to go further, but that could be outside my expertise.
The video is called Rolling Stone and is of the 1992 operations, when ARC purchased their 4 class 59 locomotives.

Well I have the required votes for finalizing the sceniced Whatley Quarry. I have made quite a few modifications and only envisage doing 2 or 3 more things tomorrow. Could well be finalized in a day or two at most.
My latest modifications can be seen here: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/7656 ... reenshots/

WOW, this is a fantastic looking route and of course makes me lament the fact I didn't pick up the required route at its lower introductory price.

My FINAL Draft of the route is now uploaded, just need to confirm the signals I have included around the Quarry Complex, do what is necessary, so please try some of your own scenarios in and around the yard, if I don't hear back of any problems and how to fix them {if you know how} then I will Finalize the route in the next few days.
I do not intend altering or adding any more Buildings and Vegetation, as I am more than happy with where I am at with that aspect of the upgrade.
Once I have finalized it, I will be adding several of my scenariois for it as well.

Cheers, Roland.

Hooray - I have finally Finalized the route at last.
Now to uploading some scenarios over the next day or so.
I look forward to trying Your scenarios on it as well.

Here are my first two scenarios. They are a bit asset heavy, as they were from my Route testing. I will work on some with less assets later.

One more scenario, using the class 59 as the Player Loco, less assets required on this scenario than on the previous 2.

Subscribed on Steam and the workshop tab in TS2016 shows no missing assets but the quarry workings, buildings and extra scenery do not show when I go to the route. I have unsubscribed, cleared the cache and ran TS2016, shut TS2016 down gone to steam, re-subscribed to the route, restarted TS2016, cleared the cache and restarted TS2016, Steam shows that it downloaded the route again at the time of restarting TS2016 but I still see nothing at Whatley Quarry when I go to the North Somerset route. I also have the Stevens Pass Route too.

There must be something simple and obvious that I'm doing wrong! Help! please :)
