Does anybody know how to convert tile coordinates to latitude and longitude.
For example, a siding is on tile -110 87 (in track tile -000100+000087)
On this tile, it occupies x and y coordinates 286.422 and 481.438
This data is from the tracks.bin file.
Thanks for any help.

hi this is a hard way of doing things if you get it wrong or do something wrong the route will not load and crash out train simrscarter wrote:Does anybody know how to convert tile coordinates to latitude and longitude.

Without knowing the lat and long of the route origin you can't do it, and even with that information it's the long way round of doing things---and involves hard sums...
Simply 'fly' to the spot in the world editor and make a note of the lat and long as given in the 'compass' at the top of the screen.
What do you need the information for?

Re: convert route tile coordinates to latitude and longitude
On a similar theme - I have a route that has been made with the incorrect co-ords. Is there any way of correcting this to the correct ones so that Google Earth will display correctly?
NB: I have permission from the originator to extend this route which is why I nned the help of GE.

Re: convert route tile coordinates to latitude and longitude
One problem I have come across is that althought train sim is flat earth the co-ordinates are still spherical. So if you use a route with an origin of 0,0 is you go north you do not change you longitude. However if you use a origin of say Swanley (London to Brighton) if you go north the longitude changes which it shouldn't. If you then try and change the tile number or the metre offset on a tile it will change the angle of the route.
For refernce each tile is 1024mx1024m and the "286.422" is the extra offset in metres so a tile of +100 and offset of +286.422 would be route origin+102686.422m.

Re: convert route tile coordinates to latitude and longitude
Thanks Edward, most interesting!
Earlier today, using a utility I found called "RW_Merge Route", managed to move the original route (in the wrong location) to what I thought was the correct one after getting the corrected Lat/Long - however on closer inspection after the .exe had done its work found the route had been moved about 200mls/325kms North West!
I was impressed by the fact that aspects of the route had been moved!!
All I need to do now is take a course in rocket science to get the maths correct for a re-run
