Black Forest Route announced
Hi,
This just caught my attention: DTG announces a Black Forest route on their website, and although it's not mentioned in that article the Facebook post covering the announcement says it's developed by "Magic Rail".
The screenshots look Ok, however by the looks of it using only stock from the old European Assets Pack.
I believe there's a relation between this project and the older Black Forest route available, from "Rail Magic" according to this product picture on Amazon.
I believe that the older route didn't have very good reviews, so let's hope it will be sufficiently upgraded for current standards....!

Well I hope DtG do it justice? They seem to be pretty good at it though these days.

I am sorry to crash everyone´s hoping, but this is possibly the worts german route ever (yes, it´s the old schwarzwald add-on). Since when does DTG "rework things to current standards"? Any experienced german simmer can tell from the pictures: nothing is beeing reworked. It´s like a massive long version of the Seebergbahn full of kuju assets and boring old rolling stock. I would strongly advise anyone with taste to stay clear from this route.
This is totally outragous to be honest: after removing the class 156 and others from the store "for quality reasons". DTG is now adveritising this dreadful route as "state of the art".

Re: Black Forest Route announced
In any case it would not be DTG redoing the route -- it will have to be up to the original developer, if any improvements will be made. I don't have the original route, so cannot see from those screenshots if there are any changes / improvements...
Disappointed to see that DTG would be willing to publish a route that has such poor reviews.

What makes it even more outrageous to the Germans is that this comes after DTG withdrew some earlier dlc and then advertise this. They are not winning any friends over there, if you want to know why take a look here http://rail-sim.de/forum/index.php/Thre ... Bewertung/ It would need a massive rebuild to meet recent standards.

I think this is like the SBB 1 from Simtrain where a developer wanted to release the route thru DTG in their partnership program but like SBB 1 it may not get released unless it makes the (up)grade

I'm still waiting for the SBB1 Route to be released through Steam indeed, I've been wondering about this just the other day!749006 wrote:I think this is like the SBB 1 from Simtrain where a developer wanted to release the route thru DTG in their partnership program but like SBB 1 it may not get released unless it makes the (up)grade

Very, very poor indeed. I might have been Ok with it, if this would have been released for MSTS! But not for RailSimulator!holzroller wrote:What makes it even more outrageous to the Germans is that this comes after DTG withdrew some earlier dlc and then advertise this. Really, this needs huge, huge improvements before it could be considered!
If it was a free route on the workshop, I'd consider it a works-in-progress and wait for the author to finish his route-building before subscribing, if even that.
I'll await the full commercial release via Steam before passing any judgement but it better be better than the screenshots in the above thread!

Re: Black Forest Route announced
What do you guys mean by waiting for the full release? What´s gonna change? Do you think they post an article with screenshots and afterwards completly rebuild the route to current standards? That would take years! A famous user on Railsim has been building this route form scratch for YEARS. And also to a very, very high standard. Dare I say, i might even be better than the Mosel route! I would wait for that route to come about (it will be payware), because it will be an absolut joy!

Re: Black Forest Route announced
I'd rather see Berlin-Leipzig be released via Steam instead of this unwarranted BS. German users have stated it is among the best German routes, if not, the best made for the sim. A steam release will bring out new customers and workshop functionality.
What's even more intriguing is that the shots show the German tracks used since Munich-Augsburg.

Berlin - Leipzig will come to Steam at some point in the future, the route author has already said this, but it may be a while yet.

Re: Black Forest Route announced
Response to mine and other posts on FB;
The route has been extensively overhauled and improved over the original product with much care and attention given to the detail.
I look forward to seeing some screenshots demonstrating this, hopefully they will have done a good job.

Re: Black Forest Route announced
I see the crystal balls seem to be in fine fettle at the moment.
Not a fan of continental routes so not the best person to pass judgement (if that's the right phrase to use at all), but let's wait for some more substantive info and/or WIP screenshots before resorting to using words such as 'outrageous'?.

Re: Black Forest Route announced
I thought those are current screenshots on engine driver? Well, they have put in some of those ugly trees... great. Even if they rebuild the route to "DTG standards" it´s not really good enough. The german community is not very happy with DTG´s current efforts. There is no progress on German routes since Munich-Augsburg. And there are other signals and gantrys out there for them to license and make a major change to their routes. They even release routes like Berlin-Wittenberg and Koblenz-Trier on Steam and show off that way, how bad their own routes are compared. Well, as germans we have Bahnjan, Aerosoft and our freewarebuilders. I will give DTG Cudos on two things though: Hamburg-Hannover is a really intriging route. Same goes for Köln-Koblenz. I wish they would have kept the bar to that standard and route lengh.

Re: Black Forest Route announced
No crystal ball needed, just past experience, the class 73 is an exception in that big changes were made in response to criticism, and DTG were praised for this. Many other projects have been released as shown in the WIP pics regardless of comments, sometimes with glaring errors. The screenshots shown so far contradict the statement given, hopefully some new screenshots will be shown that reflect that statement then we can all get used to a more positive experience. This would be my preference and I think most others feel the same.
