I think it sounds like a mixture of a Hymek come hydraulic there are lots of hissing (brakes, air valves) horn sounds ok.
The cab windows have that dreadful light grey tint from the drivers seat
Brakes are very sharp - in my view
Every thing else (so far) looks ok

Sounds like a Hymek?..the DTG one or a real one?

My first thought looking at the pictures are that there are no depot plaques, only the BR arrows. Are these modelled in 3D? Probably better if they weren't to make reskinning easier.

Anyway, Twitch preview at 5pm for those who are interested.

It's a right old mixture of things, I'm sure it's using the old class 31 idle sound.

What's the 58 like then???

Not a natural fit for my areas of interest. But OTOH I do like heavy freight. Also a bit put off by the scenario route setting :-?

IIRC the only ones I saw IRL were under construction during a Doncaster Works open day - certainly have a shot of one in a greeny grey primer coat.

Release of the AP56 sound pack (hopefully with a few liveries) would appeal more

Possibly a sale purchase...

Dwell I for one hopes the AP pack comes with some BR skins as they have the know how to put selectable numbers where they should be ie. for Large Logo so we can have numbers we select instead of the newer Jazz Hands livièrys that for me at least have limited appeal

I took the plunge and bought it, it fits fine with my area of interest, late BR/privatisation.

The model is pretty good, not too bad at all. Milky windows are a touch annoying, no depot plaques though. The brakes bite hard with some wagons, difficult to smoothly use them occasionally.

Most people will be wanting to know what the sounds are like; well....

Obviously the opportunities to record a real 58 are so limited nowadays (plane tickets to Spain and some good contacts at GIF aren't exactly ten a penny) that concocted sounds were to be a given. It sounds like a heavy diesel locomotive for sure, but not quite a 58. 58's to my ears always sounded like a well silenced 56 crossed with a 60 with roaring fans; they didn't "thrash" with deep throaty rasping like an EE or Sulzer, but roared. The model has elements of various sim loco sounds, the exhaust note is like a 50's era diesel, slightly hydraulic even. Once wound up it sounds ok, but missing the fan roar that would suspend the disbelief a touch more.

Not sure that AP have stated as much...

But they have posted a vid of a 56 on the load bank

(And photos of classes 14 & 25 "wired for sound")

I guess an AP58 pack is a long way off :(

It'll be a very hard task for anyone to get 100% authentic sounds at the moment really considering it's about 14 or 15 years since a 58 last ran. To be honest I think this is probably one occasion where inaccuracies in audio could be more easily forgiven? (I don't own the 58 yet so can't comment either way)

It doesn't look too bad overall, although the cabside windows seem a touch too shallow (and their corners too 'squared'), and, their engine compartment doors don't have any handles with which the virtual fitter would open and close the multitude of doors!.

The freeware model models those quite nicely.

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

There is always 58016 when it becomes operational to get recordings for a soundpack from...

The operative word there is "when", and much depends on "if permission is given"
