Wrapping up christmas purchases and two questions

Post by groundhog »

After spending the usual more-than-I-should-have during this year's sales, I have to say I'm quite happy with what I got.
My favorite purchases are definitely the GWR 14xx with the autocoach and the Weardale and Teesdale (along with the 105 and 24).

The GWR autocoach is a very unique driving experience and lot of fun to drive in advanced mode (and in fact much easier than I expected). One of the coolest DLCs available, as far as I'm concerned. :)

The W&T - great network and I really love the atmosphere of it. Only had a couple of diesel runs so far, but I'm anxious to try out some steamers.
Which leads me to my first question - I have no idea what these things scattered along the route are:

I guess they are too big for hanging your duffle coat, so they must be something else?

And since I also stocked up on some AP packs (never hurts to have those ;)), I noticed that the 101 pack seems to have reversed the gear numbers on the HUD (I use the F3 HUD for the route display): 1st gear on HUD really is 4th gear, 2nd is 3rd and so on. Could someone confirm that this intended?

Cheers and have a great 2016 all!

Looks to me like a loading gauge, the height limit IIRC for rolling stock for goods sheds etc

The reverse gearing in the AP packs is correct, this is due to scripting/game limitations. The loading gauges are to limit the height of stock going out onto the mainlines rather than goods sheds. Imagine an oversize load going through a tight tunnel under a station awning, signal gantry etc

I also just purchased the AP Class 101 soundpack and while on the F4/F3 hud the gears are the opposite way around on the cab gear changer(?) the gear numbers correspond to the gear selected.

Actually, they are the CORRECT way round - the sequence in real life. The original model is wrong.

However the digital read out is not good and apparently sripting doesn't allow it to be correct. So just enjoy the "correct" motion and the sounds!

A professional DMU driver shouldn't need to look at the gear numbers, he should know which gear he's in by the way his buttocks are vibrating

A professional DMU driver used the Rev counter and Speedo to tell him which gear he should be in.

The 3D instruments in the cab are indeed correct after installing the AP pack, so I'll simply ignore the HUD. 8)
Also, I noticed the AP versions of the 101s which come with the pack don't show any gear number in the HUD at all (much less confusing :D).

There are times that I wish the forum software had a like/kudos button...
