Private Message not sent

I sent a private message on 17/12/15 and it has been sitting in my outbox since then. Should this have been sent and transferred to the Sent box or is it waiting for a manual intervention on my part? I might add that I am experiencing severe communication problems including e'mails not receiving replies or any action, comments posted in response to comments about my uploads not appearing, uploads edited and re-submitted not being approved.

Private Messages will sit in your OUTBOX until the recipient picks them up.
Only then will it transfer to your SENTBOX.
That way you have an indication that the recipient has indeed seen your message.

I still have one in my outbox dated 16 Nov 2010 to member ' 309601'. I do hope he is ok?
