Poll: Own Maerdy 1 or Maerdy 2

Post by xguerra »

This is a poll to see which of the two Maerdy routes people own now that the second has been released.

I expect you will find out why I have asked this around Christmas time.

Interesting to see more description of the changes to the New Austerity compared to the first addon, that would be the deciding point for me in honesty

Hm, slightly confusing poll options in my opinion, because I own one, and am still considering the new version, therefore, should I have clicked "Intend to own"? Or not?

Perhaps it would have been better to have 5 options, splitting out "Owning" and "Intending to own"? So you can see what people currently really own, vs what they might buy at one point in future?

Anyway I decided to select only the original Maerdy!

Cheers,

I own the original, and it's a very likeable route.

Not sure how inclined I am to buy the updated version... Reduced to single track, sidings, depots and stations stripped out...

Perhaps, if there were some Canton 37s and 56s in the offing (not sure if 56s worked to Maerdy) for some early 80s scenarios

Likely. A class five-six ? I do think that that type was referenced many times over...

If you mean a type 4, that is named after a certain district of the UK and starts with a P, then for sure posts have been put on the mod-q for mentioning that word.

The reason I didn't separate them is that depending on when/if you and others alike are swayed one way or another, or swayed by what I may have to offer in the next 2 weeks, the DLC that is going by majority could change.
It's in some way about timing. Whichever is by majority in the next 2 weeks, whether a firm decision or not by the users that vote, will impact on my offering.

I admit my reasoning sounds quite confusing but it makes sense from my point of view because I know why I am running this poll.

I don't own the new one, but assumed the route was an UPDATE on the existing one (i.e. replacing and improving it).

Is that not the case? Will scenarios for the old one not be compatible with the new one?

No sadly they're more or less separate.

The new route has the branch in post 1964 condition I believe, which means single track branch, no loops, all stations closed (except Porth), all non coal industries and Tylorstown colliery gone I believe leaving just the colliery and exchange sidings at Maerdy.

The original route is excellent, very enjoyable to drive, despite only being 8 miles or so takes a while to go up so doesn't feel as short you would think.

Then I think my answer would be - I would probably get the new DLC in due course to obtain the enhanced locos and the new battery loco, but would rather operate everything on the original, more expansive, route.

xguerra, if you're thinking of "backdating" the route, then the old layout would seem to be the logical choice as it would more accurately represent an older period.

But then . . . that's maybe not what you are planning :)

Admittedly, that's not what I am planning.

All I'll say is that it will be a dependency for something else.

I agree with this. I think I would much prefer driving on the original version. It would be great to see it extended further from Porth as I think it has a lot of potential.

The battery electric loco looks fun to drive.
