An interesting change from the usual German city routes.

The length of the route is not an issue for me, but the quality is.
Hopefully it will be a treat to drive as there are some spectacular views along the line.

I watch with interest.

You beat me to it Peter..... :D

And that map is incorrect as the route goes from Mürzzuschlag all the way to Vienna.

And yesterday on the Railworks Austria site was released the latest version, BETA v0.31

Cheerz. Steve.

This hasn't had the best of receptions on the German speaking forums, especially with the battery powered Taurus in the initial pic, and the German catenary in the first of the above pics. Derek has said on FB that the catenary pylons would be changed. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the free one from RWA. Regardless it is nice to see the sim spread it's wings a little further.

The problem with a lot of people they see a picture and think it's finished and ignore the Work In Progress bit.

But it's a bit short for my liking - Weiner Neustadt would have made a better end of the route.

I wonder why, with the thousand of Km of railway in Austria, why choosing a route which was just announced as a freeware a few days ago

Well I don't think that they started development just a couple of days ago... They likely started development planning quite a while back, unaware of the freeware route being in development at the same time!

To be fair, the route was probably planned long ago, and is almost certainly far more advanced than the current pics might suggest based on past experience. Length wise, well short high quality routes can be good, depends whether thay can capture the Austrian 'flair' as they say over the water.

We had this in the Summer with the Riviera line too.

Personally I'd like to drive both versions if the route is of interest to me.
Freeware routes are more generic due to the models used from other packs but they also have a charm and clever use of assets.
I expect higher standards from a payware route, custom models and detailed stations, DTG has delivered so far on the routes that I own.

And.....apparently Skyhook Games have created an Austrian Electric loco for this route, as per their FB page.

I agree the Railworks Austria loco is an excellent machine with great sounds - a true "Howling Gale" :)
