BR Class 24 - WiP from DTG

Very pleased to have the new small Sulzers, very pleased indeed...

The sounds, though, are disappointing though. At power they sound ok but where on earth do these people source their recordings? The tick-over sounds like a mis-firing 37/9 and nothing like a 6LDA. The 24 and the 25 do sound different to the trained ear, the 24 having a slightly slower tick-over and being noticeably louder under load.

I think there lies part of the issue. There's nothing wrong with enthusiasts who can tell the difference, you have my complete amazement and respect, but to probably many or most of us, they sound ok and the sounds don't put extra strain on your system. If Dovetail Games used Richard's excellent pro packs to cater for the serious enthusiast, how many people would come back and complain that their loco runs so sluggish. "the sounds are great but not very good in a laggy slideshow".

Dovetail Games have to try and cater for a large spectrum of PC systems and tastes and sounds are one thing where the trade off happens, realism versus practicality.

Don't forget this is essentially a re-release of an old product, tarted up a bit admittedly but not a *brand new* from scratch item.

DTG could record their sounds expertly, straight from the source, whereby running Armstrong Powerhouse out of business. DTG could then charge an additional $15 for the single locomotive. No more moaning, everybody wins... except Richard Armstrong.

I've been running both the Blue version and Richards Technical version and to my untrained ears the sound seems to be ok for me,it sounds like a diesel locomotive to me.

The sounds are better than the original, so there is no doubt DTG have made an effort.
