DTG Class 56
Having had the class 56 for a while and only used it as it was built for, hauling heavy freight trains, i have just tried on the London to Brighton on the scenario done 31160 09:18 Brighton-Edinburgh, scenario is top notch, but noticed that the class 56 really struggles above 60mph and only makes it to 72mph. although in real life they could reach above 90mph.
The Simulation Bin file is set at 105mph, has anyone else been able to edit the loco to get to reach at least its top speed of 80mph, or do I have to just wait until Mr Armstrong can work his magic on it with his sound pack

I have not driven the 56 much lately, but have downloaded the scenario in question and may well give it a blast, and let you know what occurs.

Re: DTG Class 56
I ended up swapping it for the old 56 has much better pulling power and got it upnto 85mph.

Re: DTG Class 56
Having driven the scenario I found it to be much the same.
If the performance of the old model is preferable, you could always swap the TractiveEffortVsSpeed file form that model to the new model, after renaming the original file by sticking .orig at the end. I personally could not live with going back to the original sounds for the grid.

having tried using the Tractive effortvsspeed file with no improvements, I have now copied over the `simulation bin` file from the other one and as this was previously modified I now can reach well over 90mphatlasduff47 wrote:If the performance of the old model is preferable, you could always swap the TractiveEffortVsSpeed file form that model to the new model, after renaming the original file by sticking .orig at the end.

Re: DTG Class 56
As a trial I modified a scenario that is on the DPS-East Coast Mainline with a postal train from Low Moor to York.
I shortened the train to 2 dead 325 emus and a class 56.
It was fairly quick off the mark but took ages to get up to 70mph and then the speed dropped when climbing.

Hi all
Comparing the old and new simulation files. There is a substantial difference in the figures. I altered whatever was different in the new from the old tractive effort etc. files where some lines were missing from the new I added these by altering the text in the lines. Changed the max speed and start up in the bin. The difference for me was amazing rapid acceleration up to 86mph. Whether this is prototypical I don't know. But it was certainly more satisfying. Hope this helps if it has not already been done.

Re: DTG Class 56
Isn't the rated/permissable max speed for a 56 80MPH?
Re: DTG Class 56
Yes it is 80mph, but had a few railtours where speeds got to 95 and even 100mphgptech wrote:Isn't the rated/permissable max speed for a 56 80MPH?

Yep i had 022 doing 88 along the GWML very back in the day
Re: DTG Class 56
Would the current gradient affect the speed in anyway?

Re: DTG Class 56
It should do - depending on the load of the train.laurall wrote:Would the current gradient affect the speed in anyway?

If you are going uphill it will slow down - going down hill you should be able to maintain speed with less power.
What did you change in the Simulation files?

Re: DTG Class 56
Errrr, yes, most definately, they didn't have 3250 hp for nothing, many MGR drivers I knew used to consider flying about light engine as and when the circumstances prevailed as being a perk of the job, I'm sure if you have a search a few Yoo Toob videos will confirm this.laurall wrote: The difference for me was amazing rapid acceleration up to 86mph. Its all very simple just compare the files from both the old and the new locos and adjust the values in the new files so they correspond with the old. A lot of the values are the same but some have been changed. The bin file is elementary. When it comes to the DCSV files one of them has exactly the same values but the others require swapping nos , where the value has a load of zeros disregard them and just change say 5.2 to 6.7. At the end of these files there are some extras so just copy and past one of the sections from the new file renumber it with the next number in the sequence and put the extra values in there. Thats what I did no doubt someone else has a better way and maybe a lot of what I did was not necessary but it worked for me. Sorry I'm the worst person to explain what I've done but if you need more help let me know.
