How We Were for MEP
Hi all,
Having trouble with activity "How We Were" for MEP.
I have installed all the rolling stock in the list. MEP boots up OK but when it comes to starting the activity it throws up error message for various types of rolling stock, locos, coaches an goods wagons. The missing files are eng files, mainly AI eng files and for the goods wagons the wag files. I have found all these files and installed them but each time the list gets bigger.
So far I have installed 10 extra files.
I feel now is the time to ask for a bit of help as to what is going on.
Thanks in anticipation.
Regards
Steve.

Hi Steve,
If you are running MEP as a mini route, although it's probably not necessary, I would recommend you click the Unstore All button before adding anything to the route.
Cheers,
Ged
There are 8 AI eng files supplied with the activity - have you added them to their appropriate folders? The missing files are eng files, mainly AI eng files

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Steve, from the Read-me File this Activities needs 17 files copied from your normal MSTS Trainset Folder into the MEP Trainset
Folder, so you must do this before installing the AI files to the right Trains Folder and this procedure must be done with all Eric's Activities.

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi,
Sorry Bob, but I must correct you!
The readme states : "This activity needs all of Dave Robinson’s exLNER loco stock copied across from the SCP Route "
The 17 items specified, are to be downloaded from UKTS, if not already present in your MSTS installations. It's just a pity the required SCP locos aren't identified!!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Ged & Bob
Thanks for your replies so promptly. I have install the AI files in the appropriate locos and I did uninstall MEP before I installed the activity. I've also copied all the exLNER locos from SCP into the MEP, well the ones with the shed numbers. But I've just been down the list again and found some CCW exLNER locos and copied those over.
Then I tried again to run the activity but it was no better, it brought up another missing item not mentioned anywhere in the read me or in the 17 files.
I think the best thing for me to do will be delete the act and reinstall it.
Regards
Steve

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Ged, in my hurry to answer the problem I did miss out that first line of the read-me so I'm sorry about that omission, I had all the stock that Eric
used in all his Activities except one which was easy to download and install in my MSTS Trainset Folder.
I then added in the AI Engine file and copied the whole loco folder over to the MEP Trainset Folder, ready for use later on.

Hi Ged and Bob
Thanks for your replies.
I have reinstalled MEP and have installed all the 17 files that were in the readme and also copied all the files from SCP whose loco numbers start with 6. There were quite a lot of files from SCP. Also have installed the AI files into the appropriate locos. Then I installed the activity.
When I tried to run it again it still came saying that some loco files were missing. It seems that it has something to do with whats copied over from SCP. O I'm still at a loss as to what to do.

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Steve, from the print out of the read-me, it seems that not only do you need the exLNER Loco stock from the SCP Route but several others
as well, it may be these are the ones you are missing.
The only answer to this problem is unstore everything in the Mini_Route and go through the Trainset folder and see using the pages after the
listing of the consists if the ones with (SCP) at the end are in there and if not copy them over from your SCP Trainset folder.

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Steve,
The problem of stock missing from the stock list for this activity was raised just after the act was released.
The simplest and quickest way is to copy all the SCP stock into the MEP TRAINSET folder.
HOWEVER, there are "dangers" with doing that! Not least is that all the stock supplied with the MEP route are configured to work together (couplings, bounding boxes, etc.) Although it won't occur with this activity there could be difficulties when trying to mix stock at some future time.
ONE MOST IMPORTANT point - DO NOT overwrite the MEP DEFAULT folder with that from SCP. If you do, you'll almost certainly have coupling difficulties with the MEP stock!! NOTE : The DEFAULT folder only contains one file, default.wag, without which MSTS won't run; it contains various operating parameters, which may be user-adjusted.
Cheers,
Ged

HI Ged & Bob
Thanks for your replies. I was beginning to think that the best thing would be to copy all the stock from SCP. But I think I would have hesitated about overwriting any of the files. Now you said about not overwriting the MEP files I'll give it a go.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Ged & Bob,
Still no joy with this activity.I've reinstalled MEP, reinstalled all rolling stock in the read-me and I decided to install all the stock from SCP. Then I installed the activity. This time train-sim it booted up OK but when it came to booting up the activity I still got error messages about miss stock. I found them and installed them. But then it was saying there were missing parts of sound. I found some of them and and installed them where I thought they should be but because it asked for them again I obviously put them in the wrong place.
So in view of this I think I've persevered long enough and I'll just have to wait until the steam version comes out.
Also I couldn't get the Editor and Tools to work.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Regards

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Steve,
Where have you installed the MEP Mini-Route?
Is it possibly in C:Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)?
If so you're likely to keep having this type of problem!!

Ged

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Ged
I have a folder on C drive called 1Trainsims and in there is a folder called Mini _Routes, all five that I've got are in there.
I don't know if all the rolling stock etc., that I've installed from SCP and MSTS trains folder has made a difference to MEP Editor and Tools that's stopping is working. So maybe the best thing I could do is uninstall it once again and reinstall it.

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Steve,
If your mini routes are stored in C:\1Trainsims, there shouldn't be any problem.
What do you mean when you say the MEP Editors and Tools has stopped working? Is an error or system message shown?
It's unlikely that the stock you've copied into MEP would cause that kind of problem. Bad stock or consists usually give an identifiable error message.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: How We Were for MEP
Hi Ged
Last night I made a quick activity up but I didn't have the loco and coaches that I needed. Today I have copies the loco and coaches plus common sound and cab etc. into the MEP trains folder. I then went into Editors in order to change what I did last night but it wouldn't open, it just stopped working. It has done this a few times. I have unstored everything.
Cheers
