This Voith 261 Diesel Hydraulic locomotive is definitely *different* from most others. in the way it's controlled, mainly. It made a refreshing change, I must say ! This loco is well thought-out, in the way it's speed is gradual, and it certainly be useful in the way it appears to handle yard traffic, and is really gentle with what it works with. I mean, how it starts moving , without damaging the sometimes sensitive freight it handles, I mean, and there's no zooming around the yard, to put it in perspective.
I doubt this sort of controller would be would be good on an 08 Class locomotive, as everything else would need to be re-designed, first, and the 08 Class is too old, for one thing, too far out of date, and technology. The Voith locomotive would perform well in a British big shunting yard, but might not fit too well going between long rows of freight wagons. It just needs a little more space, being wider (slightly), than standard British wagons would be. I would be interested in knowing what those of you, who have been using 08 Class locos in their shonting work for a while now, react to this type of shunter, in their work - how much easier it might be, and how it performs, etc. It's different, I have one thing to say, so is it good, or too hard to operate ? What do others feel ?

Care to provide some form of illustration or description, for those of us who are curious but have no idea how the 261 is controlled?

I have the FPS/VR Vossloh G6 (which has a similar throttle to the 261)
Its a bit like the tap changer in the class 86/87.
I think it adds a challenge to TS. I quite like it.

The 08 ingame doesn't drive anything like the real thing, in fact it probably couldn't be more wrong...
