Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
Hello everyone.
Am getting error messages trying to install MEP 1.0 Mini disc I have made three or four attempts.
The Bat file appears to run but stops after a minute or so, I press the spacebar but that does not move anything.
I press X in the top right hand corner and then the main MEP starts rolling.
The route appears to install OK but when I get into the Trainset, that is where it goes wrong.
The error message is An error occured while trying to copy a file.
C\mep1.0-MiniRoute\train simulator\mep-31467\class 31 bogie ace
Data error (Cyclic redundancy check) Click retry to try again
Ignore to skip this file (not recomended)
or Abort to cancel installation.
At the moment I have got as far as the ICE HST I have been pressing Ignore (on the basis that I have the MEP trainset backed up on external HD so could overwrite files. But it looks as if it will be a good game played very slowly.
Any help advice appreciated.
Cheers
Andy

Re: Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
Hi Andy,
Data error (Cyclic redundancy check) usually means either a problem with the DVD drive or the Hard Disk Drive.
Do other CDs and DVDs read OK ? - try both types of disk because they use different lasers within the drive.
If all disks read OK, try cleaning the MEP disk; if that doesn't help, is it scratched?
If the MEP disk is OK, do you have any problems with other programs reading the Hard Drive?
The .bat file is copying data from your default MSTS installation into the MEP installation - by clicking the X at the top right, you are aborting the copy, so it will continue with the remainder of the installation.
The .bat file is stored on the Hard Drive. so If it is having trouble copying files, that is my suspect.
Cheers,
Ged

Having broken off from the fourth attempt to post this thread, I resumed skipping files, It was an HST followed by some MGR coal wagon files, then off it went and completed the installation!!!
I copied the complete trainset from my external hard drive and so far, so good, Have run the "Dobin" and Broad street acts and they seem fine.
No I do not have any problems (as far as I know) with other programs reading the HD.
The only thing was that the first three attempts I had, I used the cd drive and on the last go, I did use the DVD drive.
Cheers

Isn't MEP a DVD? If that is the case you wouldn't expect a CD drive to be able to read it.

It does not actually say.
Anyway, I found that a lot of the scenery had not installed,Probable cause the BAT file not installed,So tried another installation, this time the BAT did install correctly but then failed during installing tiles about halfway through so guess I will have to give up.

Yes, MEP is a DVD, but you'd be very hard pressed to find a CD only drive these days!! The exception being if you're using a very old PC, in which case the drive would definitely be at the end of its life.
Andy : As you were able to copy your backup folder without problem, the cause will be a dirty disk, the DVD drive lens requires cleaning or it's developed a fault.

No sadly, I can not, although it copies the BAT file OK, It only gets to about half way through the installation before stopping.slipperman12 wrote:

Have also attempted to install Mini Route Scottish Central Plus, This will not even start.
So before I head for the computer shop, Is there possibly some reason why it is running slow? Also when I shut down the computer the clock stops.
I am wondering if there is something unchecked in the tool bar, I do not ever look at that part of the computer as I do not understand it.
Cheers

Re: Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
Hi Andy,
If it's the latter, then the Lithium cell which retains the data for the BIOS has run out and needs replacing. This is very likely if it's more than about 5 years since your PC was built. The type is usually either 2025 or 2032 which can be obtained in packs from pound shops; you will, of course need to open up your PC, remove the old cell and install to new one.
That could also be the cause of the problems you're having with the optical drive.
Cheers,
Ged
Do you mean the clock just stops, or when you restart the PC, the time starts from 12:00 again?when I shut down the computer the clock stops[

Re: Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
Thanks Ged.
Not totally happy about taking the cover off my tower will have a go at that tomorrow, The clock goes slow say if I turn the computer off for seven hours twenty minutes then the clock is seven hours twenty minutes slower.
It only seems to be discs with large contents that my DVD drive wont read, so perhaps this is the problem, will report back.
Cheers

Re: Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
Hi Andy,
If you're not happy about taking the covers off your PC, then please don't! Although the cell is easy enough to see, it's a little more awkward to remove and replace!!
If your PC is fairly old, that might be the problem, but I recommend you take it to your local repair shop, or at least someone with the confidence (and ability!) to do it for you
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
Hi Ged.
Yes I did have a look at taking my cover off but decided against it and will be contacting my repair shop tomorrow.
When I started it up today The date and time showed 31/12/2001 which tells me that the battery has totally "Passed away"
I must admit that I did not even realise that my computer had a battery, suppose that I should have done
I am unable to hit the "Apply" Icon as this is disabled, In fact all of my apply icons are disabled.
Anyway guess I will have to back up stuff onto my external H/D and seek repair help.
Cheers

Re: Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
Hi Andy,
You are quite right about the battery passing away
I had to replace the one on my Win 8.1/10 test PC the other day - it must be about 6 years old!
I don't know what you mean by the "Apply icon", but there shouldn't be any need to backup your data because the repair shop won't (or, at least, has no reason to) be touching any hard drives.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
I am not totally convinced that the problem is solely caused by the battery so am backing essential files on H/D, just in case.slipperman12 wrote:Hi Andy,

The apply button (Perhaps icon was not the right word) You have Left to right, OK Cancel and Apply, It is all of my Apply buttons that are blanked out.
Would a dead battery cause this to happen?
Cheers

Re: Unable to Install MEP Miniroute from disc
Hi Andy,
The "Apply" button appears on some right-click options, but it's always greyed-out until you make some change on that particular screen.
It has nothing to do with a dead battery!
Cheers,
Ged
