FS E626 Italian Eloc

Does anybody here drive this magnificent piece of ancient Italian electrical locomotive power ?

I did find a few posts about the E626 model by Titiaan Baldo, available at amiciTreni.net, but they mostly pertain to the old model which did not have a cab. In 2014 the model has been severly upgraded and includes an 'oozing with atmosphere' cab and working functions too much to comprehend for someone who does not master the Italian language in the first place.

This actually is the only lack in this otherwise superb freeware package comprising 6 models: the manual comes only in the Italian language. And it is my experience that this venerable old prima donna wishes to be driven only by the book and by the book only. And what a book it is!

With perserverance mode on i managed to get it going nontheless but then one has to deal with a row of red, green and yellow lights which undoubtedly require action unknown to a confused non Italian speaking driver. ( i suppose it may well be something similar like the Tab Changer procedure in the Class 86/4 locomotive ?... )

Along with the manual also a comprehensive key press listing is provided but i can't for the live of me get anything to work with that. All functions do however work by mouse clicks.

Anyway, i love this big electrical monster from the past a lot and really hope to find a soulmate here who might have an understanding of how to treat this prima donna right and teach me how to do that.

All hints/tips and taps highly appreciated !

I have not tried that loco as I had enough problems with the CSD 350 electrics - they have some form of Sifa which I could not work out so I gave up on them.

Slightly O.T. Have you tried the SZ 664 which is a nice beast.

I gave them a donation for the full version which has lots of features but it does not seem to work with the keyboard and you have to look at the brake or power handles to use the mouse.
Shame as they are quite nice with a good bit of noise.

Hi,
Not being an Italian fan i've not seen this loco, and for a freeware loco it has some nice features, so i decided to have a go and dropped it in to Test trak to see if i could get it to move.
After a few minutes it was moving so ill try and tell you what i did, i can't speak Italian just guess work after looking at the manual.
1 use the right arrow key to move across the cab and put the big double knife switch in for battery power.
2 Put the small knife switch in thats next to the big one and the compressor starts.
3 Move the handle on the back wall above the compressor (i think it is) so the gauge starts to move. As im here i screw the handbrake one way, dont know if this make a differance or not.
4 To the right of the power handle is a handle which puts up the pantograph it picks which pan you put up by its position to the numbers by the handle.
5 Once there is enough air to raise panto use the left arrow key and move back to drivers postion, you to need to press the left button on the brass oblong plate to start the main compressor and wait until it fills with air, once this has happened i then went and stopped the small compressor by taking out the small knife switch and shut the . on the back wall.
6 You should now be able to select a direction realese the brake and power up and move, the lights in front of you i dont really know what they mean, but if you give it to much power the needle in the motor ammeter goes to 400A and it then thows a breaker out and no more power, if this happens press the left button in the brass oblong to reset.
7 Down on your left when in the drivers postion is some switches which seem to be cab light, outside lights an instrument lights. Wipers are turned on with little cocks up above the drivers window. also on the left wall to the side of the cab window (which opens) is a horn button (a round black button) and a red metal rod which gives a whistle i think. Also i forgot to mention here is the sanding handle. You will see that a train brake handle and a big round wheel for the loco brake are on the left of the driver.
Couple of things i dont understand like the warning system for the signals, ( I think it is) which you switch on with the rotary switch and there is a button under the drivers window but no idea on this perhaps i'll find out with a bit more reaserch, like reading the manual a bit more but as this was just a quick test i might not found out.
Anyway enough waffle and i hope this helps, it was easier to do than type it all out !

As their web page said they had an offer bundle for the D445 and Minuetto, I decided to get them. It was only after paying via Paypal I noticed I was outside the offers applicable window, so assumed it was money lost.
But no, the following day received all the required
info to D/L and install the items. There is a problem however, in that, I cannot get the D445 to couple up to the wagons as asked to do in the enclosed scenario's.
I have placed the D445 and the Kuju FSA cont flats on tracks within the Test Track Route, in a Free Roam scenario. In this situation I can couple the flats to both the front and rear of the D445 with no problems. So cannot understand why this doesn't happen in the scenarios.
I have sent an EMail, two days ago to Anemonelabs to see if they have a solution. But to date have not received any acknowledgement.

If memory is correct, I seem to remember this has something to do with Crash boxes?

I am sure there was a patch for this which I e mailed and got from them which solved the issue. I think I have it - it consists of 3 bin files in the required folder structure to replace the non working ones. Wonderful loco and many scenarios in the old Ferrovaria Sul Confine Italia e Francia route.

With your printed listing in the cab i am now driving the E626 like if it was a Class 101, wondering what was so difficult about it... The most important part is to initially take it easy with the power handle and keep a good eye on the motor ammeter, isn't it.

I think i'm getting acquainted with the red/green/yellow/red lights as well although it would be nice to really get to the bottom of it ( f.i. the flashing versus the steady lights). I was a bit worried about the coupling but that proved not necessary. Great! Even did a bit of shunting today which i wouldn't have believed yesterday. All thanks to your most appreciated sequential listing. Thanks a lot again for that !!

Oh, btw, with "and shut the . on the back wall" what exactly do you mean by that, Stu ?

I suppose you also activate all knife switches underneath the brass oblong plate ? ( when i was playing around with them with the engine running all lights went out, gauge needles died and smoke came gulping out of the engine compartiment.... Once activated again everything was back at normal and i could finish my test drive, the smoke stayed though.... )

WOW!! That's truly amazing, Chris, thank you so much !!

The thing is though...... with this E626 model i can't seem to get anything to work via my keyboard ( English version of Logitech K350 ).No matter what key i press nothing happens... I believe i've seen this before with one or two other 'exotic' locomotives. Normally no problem at all. Sofar i've been driving the loc via mouse input only and that seems to work fine. Just that i cannot handle the loc from external view ( HUD does just about nothing neither ), bit of a bummer but makes it all the more realistic on the other side of the medal.

So all key functions do work for you, Chris ?....

Yes, i remember it very well but on my former system. No doubt because it was needed in scenarios. I had a lot of non UK/US/Germany routes, some of which are absolutely gorgeous. The locs/trains often do give a bit of an headache indeed. Eventhough i can't use my keyboard with the E626 it does work perfectly. Highly recommended.

Certainly sounds familiar... I got the D445 and Minuetto too and remember it took a while. Also needed for one or more of these wonderful Italian routes. Been a while though as that was all on my former system but i can very much imagine i had trouble with the D445 and scenarios too. It's a pity there's no English speaking forum at most of the 'foreign' TS sites...

It should say shut the handle on the back wall, the one you open to get the pantograph up, i don't know if it makes any difference if you shut it or not.
Ah, if i type the word i wanted to use in the preview window it does not show up in the final thread, it must think its a rude word, thats why it didn't make sense. Its also missing in instruction 5, so just put handle in there as well.
Yes I forgot to say close the 2 small knife switches at the bottom of the brass oblong.
Liked the smoke bit, i didn't take them out when it was running, i'll try that for a bit of fun !
I did put the instruction about the button under the drivers window in to a translate thing and it said somthing about the fields so it must be pressed as you go through the electrical fields, yet to try that one.

Anyone driving the loco know?

Well I am driving the loco in a scenario. Those keys seem not to be needed. Worked down the startup list as far as the W key and then drove it normally.

Forgot just how wonderful it it! Like driving a mad professors garden shed from in the cab. Great soundset - full of character.
