Hi all,
Sorry guy's but I can't see what all the fuss is about with Windows 10, will it improve TS performance or my maths or design software or any other software you care to mention, I very much doubt it.
It will also be an extra cost to business in the re-training of its staff which in the long run will come out of us the consumer.

Quite possibly yes windows 7 is more efficient than Vista, don't know much about win 8 on the resource front.
When I was running vista my PC allways ran hot due to the load it put on the CPU

Actually a lot of business don't upgrade as they are quite happy running there productivity software on the OS they have got. Maybe upgrade 2 or 3 versions later.

Exactly what, if at all, it will bring us purely in terms of TS gaming is anybody's guess, but does anybody think DTG have been working away on the Unreal edition without one eye on what's been happing in the MS camp?

Just ignore my Pete..ism's I'm probably turning into a cynical old s.. as well as going senile.
I suppose I will update myself to Windows 10 when all the dust has settled.

Why wait Pete --- MS are offering free upgrades for just about anybody provided you are running 7 or higher, just got to get my laptop signed up before July 29th

However if you use your computer for other things - MS Word, MS Excel, Photoshop etc, then you might wish to check compatibility with Win10.
Nice to get a free upgrade but no good if it breaks a number of programs.

Pete's actually half right: the update to 10 Will eventually be worthwhile, but the hype surrounding the chance to get in the queue is more fuss than substance. People have the impression they have to sign up for the update now when that isn't the case.

I've been running the Windows 10 Technical Preview for some time and it seems fine and has improved with each release of the TP. I am also running MS Word 2000 and Excel 2000 in the Technical Preview with no problems.

When the final release is available I will just take a full image backup, upgrade to Windows 10 and see if everything (including TS2015) works as it should. If there are any problems I can always go back to the Windows 7 images.

I would be 100% certain that MS would make sure W10 is compatible with there programs that run on W7, 8 and 8.1 as that is what you can upgrade from.

More about me...
While I'm not busy with SHIRT or the IOW Metro I'm actually at work, as a Senior I.C.T Technician at a school (hopefully as Network Manager Next Year), I've been testing out Windows 10 (W10) for a while now I would say it's a huge improvement, and refused to install W8.1 on the school system, the same at home is well and stuck with W7 Pro SP1, so what can I tell you about W10 from my view...

From the educational side
Well, I've been talking with our Support & Supplier Novatech who are also developing W10 for their in house products, they won't release details on what they are making or testing BUT, what we have found out that anything that currently works on W7/8/8.1 should work or in about 96% of cases, during our test that 153 out of 160 titles worked, our school uses some really old software that dates back to W95/98 era and some that uses 16Bit technology and still works perfectly on the test machine as a standard alone and on the network.

Issues en-counted
To be honest I thought I would drop in and say some of the issues that I have had which is Abode CS3-CS5 seems to have issues installing from USB, Network or CD/DVD, the only way around this at present would be to copy the install files to your local drive and then run it from there. Other

Gaming Side
I've not given W10 a true game thrashing yet as W10 is DX12, many games at present are not DX12 ready, apart from about 24 titles from my last check on-line but I'm hoping once it's officially released, developers 'may' patch them or release a DX12 upgrade, I can then see if there any improvements, I'm hoping that TS2016 will be DX12 ready or even 'Unreal Train Simulator (2017?) would definitely be amazing though I am getting a head of myself, I wonder if DTG would venture in to the Hololens environment?

Finale Thought
I did have to upgrade the old Dell PC from 2GB to 4GB of RAM as the 64Bit is very resource hungry & running a 32bit 2009 Dual/Duo Core, the name escapes me, it's in my server room at the moment but it's not an i3 model - but considering the age it does run very well and as I said it seems to be backwards compatible on many of the old software I've been testing so I don't think you will have too many issues, and it runs Office 07/10/13 happily and those who are running Office 03 was end of life last year along side XP.

From what I've been told also that W10, possibly not included in Home(?) comes with a form of virtual PC that will allow old software to install with out issue though I would take this with a pinch of salt and you may find it removed and have to install Virtual PC and then install the older version of Windows to run old software.
