The upgrade gives you a Win10 licence of the same scope as your existing Win 8 one, and although details are yet to be released the ability to create your own installation disc from a .iso image will be available.
Once you have the licence your copy of Win 10 is yours, no time limit on that---the 12 months period to qualify for the free upgrade is just that: you have 12 months in which to qualify, and register the licence, not actually install it.

When/if they send me an activation code/licence key I will be reassured. If the free upgrade is only valid for the hardware I have now I will have to buy another upgrade down the line for my next PC (like many people I assemble my own).

Hi I've been using Windows 10 since September last year, and I have to say I think its the best OS Microsoft have produced. I installed the first version available to microsoft insiders and I have to say from the very start it always ran TS2015 perfectly. Last week I received a Windows 10 driver from Nvidia, installed and runs great on my modest GTX650TI.

I would say you will have to enter a product on installation as the preview versions have needed one, and I also imagine that you will have to activate as too. If you care to look you would probably find this information on the MS W10 site.

No it isn't , I imagine only the option for reserving the upgrade is over, then at which time on the 29th it would be automatically downloaded to your computers for which you have requested and you will then be able to install at a time that suits you. I should think that when the final release becomes available then, you'll be able to manually do the upgrade. Gary, you just beat me to it on the reply.

I just wish there was some more information about upgrading if your PC is a domain member, with updates managed by a systems administrator--all I've read is that it should be possible, is expected to be possible, but whether that's through WSUS or as a downloadable ISO I've no idea.

Yup!!, not showing there. I've arranged the preservation on all three of my computers and it's now gone from all of them.

If you go to your Windows update page does it say Windows 10 reserved, that's if you have reserved it.

Mine has also disappeared, and I didn't yet reserve mine.

Maybe it's another "Downunder" thing?

thanks Trev , just checked there, on one of my computers it says that it is reserved on the other two there is no mention of it, even though I went through the reservation process on each computer and got a confirmation email at the time for all of them which I have since deleted. Oh well, will just have to wait and see on the date. May have to do a manual download and install then for the other two.

Take care, that if you have loaded the same version / licence number on more than one machine, only one machine will be updated. To stop multiple installations.
