HST Horn

Post by PINZA9007 »

I know this is no big issue, but wondered if anyone could tell me why on some of my HST's , I am only able to get one note of the horn to sound.
I have the AP sounds for the Valenta & VP185 and the Pro MTU.
Operating the Scenario Farewell 43 - part 1 I have the VTEC HST which operates perfectly but without the 2 tone horn, only one note.
Wondered if there was something I could do to rectify this small problem.
On most of the HST's the 2 tone horn works normally.

The scenario is UKTS 34132 and the route is DP Simulations ECML North East v1.3
The HST in this scenario is the Blue Rails VTEC.

Hi

It shouldn't matter which route or scenario you're using if the problem is with the horn.

Just a thought - have you tried pressing the "B" key to get the other note?, As far as I recall, AP sound packs are set up to work the horn with both keys - Spacebar fro one note, B key for the other.

Hi Ash,
Yes I know about the B key and having the AP sound packs installed I could not understand why I was not getting the 2 tones.

I'd guess that the .bin files for those that don't have the two tone horn need editing to reflect that the AP pack is installed.

Hi Gary,
I take on board what you are suggesting, but I wouldn't know where to start.
I will stick to the single tone. Thankyou

I was operating one of the Class 43s and the two tone horn works by pressing the space bar, pressing down sounds the high tone and releasing it sounds the low tone. I have the 3 Class 43 AP sound Packs.

I occasionally have problems with the HST sounds not working properly with my AP Sound Pack added. I have the MTU Pack installed.
Every now and then the horn won't work, either with the Spacebar or the B key. Sometimes all I have to do is to close TS, re-boot the PC and start again and it fixes it. Sometimes I have to re-install the AP Sound Pack again, don't know why, but it's easy to do.

Also, I've noticed that not all of my HST's are updated by the AP Sound Pack, so is there a chance that the HST you are using in that scenario is not upgraded?

That's the most likely explanation, but it's a relatively simple edit of the .bin file to point to the AP sounds. If you use the split screen feature in RW Tools to compare a *good* .bin with one with default sounds you'll see what the edits that are needed are.

I'm sure the procedure is detailed in here somewhere, but I've been unable to locate it.
There are many members who'd be willing to do the edit for you, and explain how it's done for future reference, so if anybody wants/needs that doing just provide a 'good and bad' .bin file.

Well thankyou Gary, as you may remember from previous help you have given me, I am unable to get
to grips with RW Tools.
I have looked for this particular HST in the AP Easy Apply utility, but there are so many different ones that I would
rather leave well alone as to try changing or editing files and end up with a catastrophic TS failure.
I really do appreciate the help that you and other members have given me all along.
