Maybe we are thinking about the wrong extreme. We are thinking extreme as in big and loud, maybe TS2015 Extreme means extremely boring and monotonous, as if you were driving a train day in, day out for a living, the most real train sim ever.
I'm a lorry driver by trade, I enjoy driving them and like my job, but doing the same run from quarry to site 8 times a day makes 5 o'clock a long, long way away.

For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it

I wonder how many career points you get for being melted by a heat-ray.

I certainly could not have put it any better than this, so errrrr, what he said!jimmyshand wrote:Neither am I.andynwt wrote:i'm not ready.
They won't give up on their mission to make train simulation mainstream will they? I don't really care for this and RSC can do as they please just so long as it doesn't impact on the simulation side as it currently stands...
For most of us, our partaking in this unique and fringe hobby is born out of an interest in the subject of railways probably seeded long ago in our youth. This hobby allows us to participate in the (not extreme) experience of driving locomotives and units through the medium of simulation. It is done because we want to drive our favourite loco's on routes of interest. For many we also like to be able to recreate scenes and experiences from the past that are now wiped out from reality be it steam era or BR blue etc.
Train driving is not an extreme thing, quite the opposite in fact so personally I'm a bit dumbfounded by RSC's continual attempts to try to make it into something it's not. However, like I said, as long as it doesn't interfere with the serious simulation side, then whatever...

Richard Branson is picturing it in his mind now "Virgin East Coast Extreme". Sounds good!

Re: "extreme-ly big announcement next week" 7.04.2015?
We live in an age driven by marketing spiel and hyperbole, maybe that in itself is the most extreme part.
Unfortunately it's how it is; the internet/social media/instant communication has made us all talk drivel, just to be heard/seen rather than have anything *real* to convey---it's the same with any product, any new version is lauded to high heaven using the latest 'buzzwords' to stay in the public eye. Like it or not, it appears to be a system that works, so get used to it. You always have the option to ignore the pre=release campaign and wait till something actually arrives.
Personally I'd rather see playing with toy trains (digital or scale model ones) come out of the 'niche' corner and be a pursuit that people don't have to worry about anybody finding out about their little *indulgence*; one where users--serious geeks or just the 'slam it in forward and hit the gas' crowd--can all enjoy the same product without being castigated by 'outsiders' or even the other faction.

I've introduced two guys to TS who had, and still have, no interest at all in real trains or railway operations---they enjoy the gaming side of things so your statement isn't all-encompassing.jimmyshand wrote:The users of the sim are train nuts and always will be, it's in the blood. It's not something you will dabble in then move on from like COD or GTA
Maybe, just maybe, targeting the gaming community and trying to give the game mass appeal is why it's just how you describe it?jimmyshand wrote:It is the only viable, modern and still developed train simulator in the world with no serious competitor.

I'm another one who doesn't get Extreme-ly excited about these announcements.
Intel i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad Core, Asus P8Z 68-V LE MB, Asus GTX 1060 Strix 6GB Gaming graphics card, Windows 10 Home 64 bit, 16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 ram, Viewsonic VX2452mh LED 1080P HD Monitor. Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HD, Seagate Firecuda 2 TB HD,

We will need to see what the new updates are. But chances are anything that's current in 2015 will still be usable in 2016. You don't have to use the new features if you don't want to. LIke I have never used Quick Drive. Cant be bothered with that. I used it just to see what it did but its not my cup of tea. It sits there and is never clicked. Fingers crossed everything in 2015 will carry on working as is.
