Missing track sections in Route Editor

Post by jefran »

I originally posted this in the Newbies section, because I'm new to all of this, but as it is an NG related thing, it was suggested that I ask you guys, so here goes-

I recently downloaded the UK narrow gauge track - I want to see how true scale NG really looks after looking at the debate in this forum. The great majority of the track pieces appear when I select Track Section objects but a few do not - like the Y point and the yard point end pieces. What have I done that I shouldn't have, or not done that I should ?

Hi,

Im also using the truescale x-tracks- various section dont appear... however if you have installed correctly you should have all the sections with a prefix n- and most of the sections with the prefix a-

If you also install dualtracks, and finescale track, you'll probably find that most of the sections appear.

Which specific section dont work?

Have you actually installed X tracks? Perhaps a stupid question...

In answer to Pitley Falley, the sections that do not appear are
ukn1t1t750r5d
5msskew
100mstrttun
125r5dtun
125r10dtun
750r5drgttun
750r10drgttun
1000r10dtun
1000r20dtun
2000r5dtun
2000r10dtun
pnt2_5lftmnl
pnt2_5drgtmnl
xover5d
yardcrvlft
yardcrvrgt

These are listed in a dir (DOS dinosaur!) of .s files. As light railways were conceived to reduce the need for heavy earthworks I will not miss the tunnels, but they did so by adopting sharp curves, say 2-1/2 chains, which the yard curve would be very handy for.

I reinstalled finescale last night but with no noticeable change - I will reinstall X tracks tonight in response to Chris's suggestion.

Thanks for assisting a helpless newbie!

Don't recognize your list as being XTracks narrow gauge sections (n1t* & n2t sections). Could it be you're looking at the ukng* sections? If so you need to download the ukng track package from this site.

Okrasa,

Thanks for looking at my message. Yes, the track sections are ukng. What puzzles me is why some - even most, sections appear but not these particular ones. I have downloaded build 17 of tsection.dat and as far as my limited understanding reaches, the 45 degree curves - the ones I particularly want seem to be there, as 39320 and 39321, but they don't show up in route editor.

If you are talking about n1t* sections most of them come from XTracks but some come from the dualgauge track package seperately available.
It's over at train-sim.com, don't know if it's on this site.
The dualgauge package has a number of sections to complement XTracks.

Okrasa,
Thanks for the suggestion, my PC has just developed hard disc controller failure, so I won't be able to try it just yet - but I will as soon as I can.

Andrew, you are quite right - these UKNG track sections don't show up...

just in case you were doubting your sanity!

Thanks Mike!

I'll be out of the country for a fortnight soon, but will take this up when I get back. The yard radius curves would be ideal for a line following contours in the classic Spooner manner - I experimented with loads of yard points - separated by 2.5m straights, the long FR bogie coaches stick, but the WHR ones are fine.

The missing sections don't appear in the selection list because I didn't include them in the add-on to tsection.dat - and then forgot to take the .S files out of the UNKG track package

The tight radius - yard - curves don't work when scaled down by 50%. This is an extreme example of the problem noted elsewhere for curved UKNG tracks, in that the graphic as defined by the .S doesn't match the path as indicated in RE. For the "normal" radius curves, this leaves a small gap visible between track panels. For the yard curves the gap is almost as long as the graphic. Something has gone wrong with the geometry of the scaled .S or tsection.dat entry, but so far I can't find out what :(

Tim,

Thanks for your reply, I have only just got back from Kenya which is why I haven't responded earlier. Amongst other things I was looking at where I intend to build a (MSTS) 2' gauge railway around the lower slopes of Mount Kenya, and those sharp curves would be extremely handy.

Okrasa,
Hi,
Another newbie in this area. I see you refer to ukng track files on the sitein one of your replies. I do not seem to be able to find them. Please point me in the right direction.
Thanks
