TrackIR Comes to Train Simulator 2015

Posted on: 24 February 2015 | Tags: feature talking point news

We are pleased to announce that Train Simulator 2015 now supports NaturalPoint's TrackIR. This exciting technology allows positional tracking of your head, effectively making it a unique controller to adjust where you're looking in Train Simulator just by moving your head. For full details on how TrackIR works, please refer to NaturalPoint's Website here or see the video below.

This new technology will be added to Train Simulator when the update goes live on Thursday, 26th February. Alongside this new feature, we have included a number of fixes and improvements as detailed below.

New Pathing System For Platform Characters

We have implemented a new pathing system for people standing on the platforms. This means that people will no longer walk through objects, nor will they walk off the platforms into the path of your train. Please note whilst this addresses the majority of routes there may be instances of these issues still occuring on some older routes and we will look to address these as part of an ongoing process.

Full List of Features & Fixes in v50.5a

- Added support for TrackIR hardware
- Implementation of new pathing system for platform characters
- Task list on the 2D map now updates in real time
- Improved performance of GoogleMaps overlay in the World Editor
- Fix for inability to raise/lower GoogleMaps overlay in the World Editor
- Fix for Whistle Boards activating in the wrong direction
- Fix for inability to edit Secondary Speed Limits
- Fix for WIperMotion App provided in Developer Tool Suite
- Fix for inability to finalise routes uploaded to Steam Workshop
- Added 7 new Content Development Documents to Railworks\Dev\Docs folder in the TS2015 installation directory

Thanks for the heads-up Matt.
I wonder if they've tweaked the TIR settings at all, I seem to recall they said they were going to revise it slightly, guess we'll soon see anyway.

All of this is very welcome. An update to the (IMHO flawed) TS2015 menu system would be the icing on the cake....

Just need quick drives to be fixed so they work how they did before ts2015 (they used to spawn random stock if you set them to, now it's always the same).

Is there going to be support for webcam-based face tracking? Such as FaceTrackNoIR?

Don't know why they'd need tweaking, my TrackIR worked flawlessly in the beta.

It's weird - never got my TIR to work at all, even with the 3rd party version. I'd subscribed to the Beta TS2015 as well. I thought I'd deleted all the 3rd party files but it still wouldn't work. Odd! :-?

Have you updated your TrackIR software and games list to the latest versions? It can be done with a mouse click from within the TrackIR main screen. My TrackIR wouldn't work at first with the Beta until I updated the games list then it was fine.

- Fix for Whistle Boards activating in the wrong direction
I didn't realise they 'activated' in any direction!

What effect do they have then? Is this on all routes, or only some newer ones?

I presume they mean for AI traffic passing.

Likewise -- with TrackIR 4 and latest TrackIR software. (But ever since I invented CabViewKeys, I'm not at all bothered, to be honest! )

I used FaceTrackNoIR with the beta and it worked fine using Free Track 2.0 Protocol so no reason why not.

The only thing I found was the outside views were a bit awkward until you got used to it. Worked well in cab though. Did you think the settings were a touch oversensitive? I didn't bother to fiddle about with it as it was only beta, but it is good to see this supported fully in the game now (well, tomorrow).
